Korean Music
Korean traditional performance. LA 2012
I have grown up in Korea since I was born but I have never been to Korea traditional music concert in my life. It was my very first time to try to listen Korean music. I didn’t expect that much how much it would to be interesting for me. My first thought about the Korean music was “boring” because I know its beat and rhythm are really slower then other countries music. But my whole experience at the music concert totally made my bias different. Last time I went another Korean music concert a few months ago, I just went with my classmates but at this time I told all my friends out of my school to go with me because it was fun! When I walked into to the concert I was really shock that so many people came to join and I saw many foreigner people in there. I took a sit with my friends and I got an information note for the music show. I did not have any knowledge about the Korean traditional music so I was kind of totally out of it. After my professor had an announcement shortly, the show began. I really liked the first show because one of my classmates performed there. The first performance was the very highlight and last part of the Korean classical music is called “Samulnori, Buksori” was performed at the very last. The roots of amul nori come from ‘nog-ak’ which is known as famers music. A special ensemble called Samulnori was formed in the late 70s in Korea. Embedded depply in Korean heritage, samul nori depicts traditional Korean culture, an agricultural society roote in the natural environment. Through this music, I would feel the kinda of divinity. It was performed with UCLA sutuends and professor with our traditional Korean costumes. Prof. Dong suck is now respected as a great performer, and teacher of samulnori at UCLA. Samulnori means four instruments or object and it is called the genre of traditional percussion music in Korean. Upbeat sound of Samulnori heightened the agitation of the concert. This samulnori sounded

The concert was labeled on youtube as a Bangladesh concert. The musical artists played Indian music, and there didn’t seem to be a composer. Every one just seemed to know how to play together. By being an active listener I learned that different cultures sometimes have very different musical styles. Most musical styles touch on all elements of SHMRGO. It was really neat to see how differently Indian music is put together. It’s obvious that they’re extremely talented musicians because they have to incorporate twice as many notes (semi-tones and quarter-tones) than whats typical to us, and they all did it so well. The type of instruments I think were used were the chordophones sitar, santoor, ektara, and the getnu. Also, I think either a bansuri, a venu, or a fiti was used (aerophones); and I’m almost positive that the dhad was played percussion wise. I think these instruments were played, but there were definitely a lot more instruments played than just these. The mood of concert definitely seemed like it was met to interpret happiness and excitement. As I mentioned, there was no one composer. However, the artists did communicate with each other through body language, and that was really interesting to watch play out.The Bangladesh concert performance was definitely interesting and educational, but for the most part it wasn’t pleasing to my ears, simply because I’m not accustomed to the style of music that was played. I completely respect the music that was played, and I honor that it’s different from the music that I listen to. To be frank, the pieces sounded like organized chaos. However, over it time it may become something I’d listen to for fun. Watching this concert definitely made me curious as to what different cultures think when they hear musical styles that are common to…

On Friday night, November 22th, a great concert was held again in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre of Brock University. This concert was performed by four young, energetic, and talent musicians: Vera Alekseeva play a violin, Austin Hitchcock plays a French horn, and Karin Di Bella plays piano. When I entered the theatre, my eyes were immediately caught by a beautiful piano on the stage under the bright light. Some students were taking pictures of the instruments. Before the concert start, the musicians were briefly introduced themselves and descript about the pieces they going to play. The audiences were exciting and interesting for the concert. It was a perfect opportunity to experience such a wide variety of music.…

The concert took two stages. The costumes of singers were different from each other. While someone singing the others were waiting on the right side of the stage. That made me confused because it seems like a choir but only one singing. We listened compilation of different songs that taken from different operas. Listening different stories from different talents was an outstanding experience. It was hard to believe that only a piano companied the singers because of the deepness of the sound. When I close my eyes it sound me like a little orchestra. Most of the singers were soprano; there were few tenor and baritone. Especially Nancy Freer amazed me so much. She singed one of my favorite one Vissi d'arte which is compesed by Giacomo Puccini. Whenever I listen it I feel flame. Also she singed Villanelle from Les Nuits d’ete, composed by Hector Berlioz. The most impressive thing about her voice was, it totally filled my ears and pleasure. Nancy was more experienced than the others although she is only 31. The other singers were younger than Nancy. I am not sure but maybe some of them would be student at collage. Before the end of the first stage a face that I am familiar with took the scene. He was T.J Schuhle, bass-baritone. I know him from the opera, “The Medium” He seems really interesting to me because his…

On November 5th, at Columbia University, I had the opportunity to attend a concert by the Malek Jandali Trio. While world music is a genre, musical exoticism can be classed as a process in which musicians freely interpret attributes of the music of non-western culture and targeting specifically at foreign audience. It is the direct perception of the western audience's view of non-western music tradition, not non-western perception of non-western exoticism, in other words not the true perception, only a concept.…

The concert was a short, but fun concert to attend. The instructor of the group was out going and gave the audience a good background on the music being played. The group was dressed in very nice attire, and all matched each other pretty well. They played a various number of instruments, some of which I had personally played, and others I have never even seen. Most of the instruments used were cymbals and drums. They used bongo, snare, bass, and tom tom drums. There were also small drums that sat on the performers lap with a strap to go under the legs to stay in place. The set of music played with those drums was very interesting at rhythmic. When the instructor just changed his beat slightly the other two gentlemen knew to change as well, it was very interesting to pay attention to the change although it was very hard to notice. The cymbals used were very small cymbals are used to just tap against each other to produce a high pitched ting. The Ensemble also utilized the use of mallets on the cymbals are drums, using the mallets on the cymbals made a drastic change in the style or feeling of the music. A Large majority of the pieces played had vocals as well; the vocals were interesting even though I didn’t understand them, but they still went with the tempo and beat of the group. The vocals sang sounded tribal, as if they were from African roots and culture.…

Sonnet 29 follows the same basic structure as Shakespeare's other sonnets, containing fourteen lines and written in iambic pentameter, and composed of three rhyming quatrains with a rhyming couplet at the end. However, it does not follow the traditional English rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. Rather, the scheme is ABAB CDCD EBEB FF. As noted by Bernhard Frank, Sonnet 29 includes two distinct sections with the Speaker explaining his current depressed state of mind in the first octave and then conjuring what appears to be a happier image in the last sestet[1]…

The concert attended was “German Masters” on November second, at the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi. The Gulf Coast Symphony performed it beautifully. This theatre was an appropriate choice for the show. The environment was very comfortable. The temperature in the building was perfect, and the people surrounding me were very attentive and did not create any distractions. I sat in the front row, which had a very powerful and loud sound, but the small plants at the front of the stage limited my view.…

Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is a genre of popular music which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The terms "popular music" and "pop music" are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of muAs a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.sic which is popular (and can include any style).So-called "pure pop" music, such as power pop, features all these elements, using electric guitars, drums and bass for instrumentation; in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth. Pop music is generally thought of as a genre which is commercially recorded and desires to have a mass audience appealDavid Hatch and Stephen Millward define pop music as "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz, and folk musics". According to Pete Seeger, pop music is "professional music which draws upon both folk music and fine arts music". Although pop music is often seen as oriented towards the singles charts it is not the sum of all chart music, which has always contained songs from a variety of sources, including classical, jazz, rock, and novelty songs, while pop music as a genre is usually seen as existing and developing separately. Thus "pop music" may be used to describe a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and…

Music is a big part of our lives. We use it for special occasions and to set the mood. For example, on October 5, 2014, my girl told me that a Haitian classical Compa call “CARIMI” will have a concert at her church featuring “Klass Compa.” She told that their concert always pack up with people, especially the teens who listen to their music. I was anxious to go to it because I have never went to a Haitian concert before. Since am a keyboard player and a drummer, I wanted to see the way the play so I can go practice it at home and when I played at church. I went at the mall and purchase a nice suit and a shoe.…
