< Fried Kim-chi>
There are some images associated with Korean food, but the most well- known Korean food is absolutely Kim-chi. Kim-chi is a traditional fermented Korean food. According to the Health Magazine, Kim-chi is one of the top 5 healthiest foods in the world. It has full of Vitamins A, B and C. But since it is a fermented food, its biggest benefit is their healthy bacteria which are called lactobacilli.(health.com) So, Kim-chi by itself is just a pack of lots of good stuff and we can see our ancestor’s wisdom of keeping their body healthy from food. From the early stage that Korea has been settled down, Kim-chi has been served on Koreans’ tables every single day at their every single meal. So, for these reasons, almost every Korean would say that Kim-chi is the dish that represents their Korean ethnical identity the most. Furthermore, it also represents my other aspects of Identity for personal reasons, which is my mom’s caring for me, especially when it comes to fried Kim-chi more specifically. Frankly speaking, when I was young, I hated Kim-chi. I was just not a really big fan of vegetables. So my mom tried to make me eat Kim-chi really hard, and one of the ways that she tried was making it in different ways. She tried Kim-chi fried rice, Kim-chi gimbap which is Korean style sushi or Kim-chi pancake. But one of my favorites was fried Kim-chi since it is a sweet way to eat spicy Kim-chi. When my mom made that, she put honey since sugar or corn syrup is not good for your health. And the other ingredients she used to put were Tuna and corn, or Tofu or Spam which are all I loved when I was young, so she put them to make me eat. Also, to make it savory, she used to put butter or cheese in it sometimes. So, the recipe is quite easy if you have Kim-chi. But, The Kim-chi is the most important ingredient since the taste of Kim-chi itself actually determines the whole

In the Kikongo language, nommo means word, but it is also “the force that makes things live as what they are” (Kingsolver 209). Everything is present in this world, but once named, it gives them the life that they are named after. For example, a snake has the life it has because it is named snake, while a chicken is not a snake because that is not what it is named. This is why Adah and Leah live different lives despite being twins; they have different names.…

Korea lies in the eastern part of Asia. This peninsula is divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. Although there is a division of landscape, government, and culture, the bulk of people in Korea consider themselves a part of the Korean nation. Regardless of that, the countries do have their differences. The entire peninsula is cut off from Northeast China by rugged mountains and sizable rivers (Rowntree 365). The north suffers from heavy deforestation, however it has more natural resources. The south has made extensive reforestation efforts post WWII and so they have more greenery. In terms of culture, there are more intense differences. In the South, k-pop and Korean drams have gone global. The culture has appealed to people worldwide. Meanwhile, North Korea remains somewhat in isolation. What’s more, North Koreans attempt to flee into Northeast China, quite often. Yet no one flees South Korea. This shows that there are different cultures and levels of comfort in each…

Though in recent years Koreatown’s Korean population has declined to about 30% of the total population, it is still considered the prime place to enjoy a good dim sum or kimchi. There is a little more than a thousand Korean owned businesses in K-Town and a very good majority of those are eateries. Being known for its nightlife, most of K-Town’s eateries are bars and norebangs (karaoki rooms). “A night out in what insiders call K-Town might begin with dinner or warm-up drinks and nibbling at a stylish cafe with giant video screens, then proceed to dancing at an exclusive nightclub or singing at a karaoke ' 'music studio ' ' until dawn” (Navarro). Singing in norebangs is a widely appreciated pass-time in the Korean community and is usually accompanied with alcohol and appetizers. This pass-time is never done alone and it is usually done in large groups for any occasion. The alcohol of choice being makgeolli, a fermented rice wine, is usually associated with the cooking and munching of small strips of sweet and crispy pork belly. Small groups of people can be seen around a table drinking, cooking the snack and conversing.…

Being from a Korean immigrant family, I follow a culture that was different to other people’s. I spoke Korean in my house, ate Korean food, and occasionally engaged in Korean traditional activities. When I was in Elementary school, I remember my peers often making comments on my Korean lunch which was gimbab as I was eating. Some would look with curiosity, but most looked disgusted with the appearance of my lunch and thought it looked nasty. While I knew I looked different from most people, It was the first time I felt uncomfortable…

The six important factors to consider about South Korea’s culture is their values, norms, religion, education, social mobility, and American influences. South Korea was built up by many core values, however the most important being Confucianism. Confucianism was founded over 2000 years ago in the fifth century BC and was the official ethical system of China (Hill, Rihcardson, & McKaig, 2009). The value of Confucianism was profound in the Korean culture and it still continues to pervade amongst South Korean’s consciousness today. Confucianism shapes the Korean moral system, national laws, and business culture by placing an obligation towards relationships with others. The basic theories are based upon five different relationships: ruler and subject, husband and wife, parents and children, brothers and sisters, and friend and friend. This is important to consider when making decisions due to their high regards for respect amongst others. In addition, norms are also another component that shapes ones culture. Norms are the social rules and guidelines that define the behaviours of individuals (Hill, Richardson, & McKaig, 2009). South Korea possesses many norms, however, the most dominant is kibun, which has no literal translation that describes the pride, mood, or state of mind of an individual (Key Values and Norms, 2011). In business context, it is vital for one to show respect for others, especially those of your elders. Also, to determine one’s kibun by eye is called nunchi. Managers must be able to identify their subordinate’s nunchi to make sure they do not cross over the line of disrespect. Kibun is the facet of every Korean’s life, so it is vital to understand this norm when considering marketing Canada Goose in South Korea’s economy, specifically the distributers. The third factor to consider is South Korea’s ethical system and religion. Many scholars have argued…

These days many people know kimchi is one of the healthist food in the world. We could find kimchi most of supermarkets around the world. Although people know it, still many people do not know how to serve kimchi well. So, I would like to introduce the best way to serve kimchi as Koreans do. Firstly, the typical way to serve kimchi is with steamed rice, rameyon and BBQ meats. Kimchi is the essential side dish when Korean have meal. It is even compared sambal to Malaysians. Also serve with cool kimchi. That's why Koreans always keep kimchi in refrigerator. Now, whenever you eat something as meal, you may serve Kimchi. They will match perfectly. Secondly, kimchi fried rice(Bokkeumbap) is another common food when Koreans serve kimchi. Specially it is a great way to cook this when you have leftover rice and ripe kimchi. Just add finely chopped Kimchi to the usual your fried rice ingredients. I recommend kimchibokkeumbap to those who never tried to eat kimchi because of kimchi smell. Thirdly, we could serve kimchi stew(Kimchijjigae) is also one of common stew which Koreans like. We use more fermented and ripe Kimchi when we cook this. Sliced kimchi and other ingredients on personal preferences like sausage, tofu and sliced spring onions put into a pot and all boil with water. It accompanied by several side dishes with streamed rice and served boiling hot in a stone pot. Once you try this, you will never forget this flavor. The last one, we could serve kimchi pancake(Kimchijeon). The main ingredients are ripe Kimchi and flour. The way of cooking is almost same when you cook egg omelette. It is usually served as an appetizer, snack or side dish. Kimchijeon is a folk dish that anyone could make easily at home in Korea without extra budget. I suggest to serve kimchijeon when your mood is not good. Your mood will change soon after eating this. I introduced the best way to serve kimchi. Kimchi itself, kimchi…

There are many ways ddeok is associated with the Korean culture. Long ago, ddeok was used to expel bad luck on children when villagers thought that a child was possessed by an evil spirit. It was also used as a tool to look into the future. Fortunetellers used to forecast the future by looking at the shapes of the rice cake. For example, if the fillings of a rice cake were not fully cooked, then a couple would have a girl and if they were fully cooked, they would have a boy. Ddeok is eaten either in ordinary meals or on special occasions. Ddeok is well thought out to be a celebratory food. In Korea, it is a custom to eat ddeok guk, or ddeok in soup on Lunar New Years (Sol nal). Sweet ddeok (injulmi, gaksakpyun, and julpyun) is eaten at weddings and on birthdays, especially the 100th day of a baby’s birth, a child’s first birthday, a person’s 60th birthday and during ancestor offerings. Ddeok is used mostly at Korean banquets (janchi). It is also eaten during graduations. Each rice cake has its own significance. Huinmuri represents purity and songpyeon represents assurance.…

Mark schemes are prepared by the Principal Examiner and considered, together with the relevant questions, by a panel of subject teachers. This mark scheme includes any amendments made at the standardisation meeting attended by all examiners and is the scheme which was used by them in this examination. The standardisation meeting ensures that the mark scheme covers the same, correct way. As preparation for the standardisation meeting each examiner analyses a discussed at the meeting and legislated for. If, after this meeting, examiners encounter unusual answers which have not been discussed at the meeting they are required to refer these to the Principal Examiner. It must be stressed that a mark scheme is a working document, in many cases further developed reactions to a particular paper.
