Many people are in agreement that Kaepernick has the right to choose whether he wants to stand or kneel for the National Anthem. People who support Kaepernick would say that he is protesting but protesting what? Is he protesting the segregation of white and black people? In the article “Kaepernick had no choice but to kneel” by John McWhorter, McWhorter states “The tension between black people and the cops is not just one more race issue roiling the nation: it is the key one. It is the central cause of black people’s sense of general alienation, the first thing that comes up when you ask black people why they think racism defines their lives. Many at times people protest due to how insecure, and how they feel hurt towards certain issues. However, I do not think it is right for people to intentionally carry out an unlawful act to deliberately disturb the peace of others. The First Amendment guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and petition their government, but not in the form of a riot. The decision taken by the group of protest is terrifying and unspeakable. Even though they were exercising their first amendment right, their actions were unjustifiable. Many Americans are deeply connected with the United state Flag because it is the representation of their freedom, rights, and liberties. Many people have died for it, so I felt their actions dishonored the sacrifices…
