The Ratcatcher
The Ratcatcher’s role and the importance of his appearances are detailed on pages 2 to
5. Each page includes basic information about an element of the role of The Ratcatcher.
There is one page on each of the following areas:
1. doubling;
2. representation & symbolism;
3. music;
4. in performance.
You will work in small groups on one of above – excluding the page on ‘doubling’.
Being teacher
In your groups, you will need to read, research and understand your chosen area and key moments (as relevant) from the text. Your task is then to teach other groups / the rest of the class about your specialist area and its significance. It is up to you how you go about this. For example, you can:
create a range of worksheets;
plan tasks and activities;
organize games and quizzes;
give presentations, performances or readings;
do a mix of all of the above.
Where possible, try and make sure that your lessons include: reading, writing and speaking and listening tasks and activities. Also try to make sure that there is opportunity for your classmates to work individually, in pairs and in small groups.
As a class, read the page titled ‘Doubling’ and then complete the tasks, activities and worksheets on pages 5 to 10. This should give you an idea of the sorts of lessons you could create for your classmates on the remaining three areas.
