Human Activities that Endangered an Ecosystem

DEFORESTATION * Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees from the forests.
EFFECT OF DEFORESTATION * Tropical rainforests are the oldest ecosystem on Earth and believed to be home to about half of the world’s flora and fauna species. * Rainforests play an important role in regulating the world’s climate. They are known as the ‘carbon sink’ of the Earth because they absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide during the photosynthesis and the same time release oxygen into the atmosphere. * Large scale deforestation is thought to have a significant effect on soil erosion, flash flood, severe climatic changes and loss of global biodiversity. * Rainforests also serve as water catchment areas. Without proper planning and development,a land stripped of its vegetation cam rapidly succumb to soil erosion. * The absense of plant root systems makes the soil structure unstable. * When it rains heavily for a long period of time, the top layer of soil disintegrates easily and this leads to landslides esspecially on steep hillsides. * The eroded soil is then carried away by moving water and deposited at the bottom of rivers, which

The beauty, majesty, and timelessness of a primary rainforest is indescribable. It is impossible to capture on film, to describe in words, or to explain to those who have never had the awe-inspiring experience of standing in the heart of a primary rainforest. Rainforests have evolved over millions of years to turn into the incredibly complex environments they are today. Rainforests represent a store of living and breathing renewable natural resources that for eons, by virtue of their richness in both animal and plant species, have contributed a wealth of resources for the survival and well-being of humankind. These resources have included basic food supplies, clothing, shelter, fuel, spices, industrial raw materials, and medicine for all those who have lived in the majesty of the forest. However, the inner dynamics of a tropical rainforest is an intricate and fragile system.…

In all rainforest regions in the world, deforestation has become a major problem. The rainforest is arguably the most complicated and largely interwoven ecosystem on land. However, this treasure is being lost and demolished day by day, the land being cleared away for the pure interest of money making, in the process of deforestation. Not only are thousands of species of organisms being driven to extinction, but we are also effectively eliminating any chance of studying many of the species. Also, deforestation has a major impact on the atmospheric balance of the world, and if it continues at the rate it is now, then soon the world's entire way of living will be forced to change, and not for the good. If the people of the world do not begin to be more contentious, then soon rainforests will become nothing more than a glorious legend of the past.…

To control erosion, scientists have to consider three principles: they have to use land according to its capability, protect surface with a reliable cover, and be able to control runoff before it turns into a strong force of erosion. The capability of land is what tasks the land can withhold and how vulnerable it is to specific types of erosion. For example: the sand in a desert is not capable of absorbing water, however it is capable of being easily picked up by wind because of its low density. A surface cover is important in limiting runoff. It also is helpful in reducing the impact raindrops have when it falls on the ground and wind potentially removing soil. Trees can be used as a reliable cover up and can control soil erosion. The thickness of tree roots can help prevent landslides. Runoff systems can help provide control for runoff before it becomes a major force of erosion, such as a mudslide. Runoff systems also allow crops to get more water in an event where it rains, so it is also environmentally friendly, as well as the planting trees method. Other covers that can prevent runoff are fences, roads, pastures, and…

It is said that Mother nature has given many responsibilities to the trees. Without the trees in the rainforest, it could have global implications not just on life but the quality of life to all living things. Trees in the rainforest improve the quality of the oxygen that all creatures breathe by trapping carbon and other particles produced by pollution. Trees also determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. As more water is able to be put back in the atmosphere, clouds form and provide another way to block out the sun’s heat. Trees are what cool and regulate the earth’s climate in conjunction with other such valuable services as preventing erosion, landslides, and making the most infertile soil rich with life (Connor, 2009).…

Rainforests are important as they are home to the most diverse biotic communities. Rainforests also help to prevent soil erosion, as nutrients that are stored in the vast number of trees and plants rather than in the soil. The biggest key factors of rainforests are that they help reduce the effects of worldwide climate change.…

The massive and consistent rate of destroying rainforests has created devastating shifts in the weather and climate in those immediate areas and on a global scale, so the stability of Earth’s climate relies heavily on banning rainforest deforestation. One role that rainforests play in regulating climate is stimulating precipitation through evapotranspiration and keeping the forest floor cool, so the climate becomes significantly drier and warmer when the land is converted to pastures. Evapotranspiration, or evaporation of water from plants into the atmosphere, is key to this cycle because without enough of it then there is less rain, which means there is more competition for water between all organisms. It is also shown how even when early secondary success plants such as shortgrasses have filled in the clear cut areas that a decrease in rain and higher temperatures are still present (Moraes et al.). Furthermore, there are also serious alterations in specific weather patterns along with the overall climate. Due to deforestation, there are now irregular rain patterns where the intervals and intensity of precipitation have shifted, causing major soil runoff and inefficient…

Rainforest store vast quantities of water but when deforestation happens, the stores water is lost. Since trees and plants are responsible for the extraction of groundwater from soil and then returning it back into the atmosphere where clouds are produced (transpiration), deforestation results in the water not being able to be released back into the atmosphere which affects the balance of water (transpiration rate decreases) . This may lead to dry climates which affects the living conditions of animals due to the lack of production for rainwater.…

When explorers first entered the world’s rainforests, they were amazed by the rich growth of plants, giant trees, dangling vines, and epiphytes. They thought the soil of a rainforest must be very rich. They tried cutting the forest and turning it into farmland. It didn’t work. When a rainforest is burned or cut down, the soil can only be used for a very short time before it runs out of nutrients. Afterward, biodiversity suffers.…

Tropical rainforests are among the most mysterious of all geographical biomes in the world. A biome is an area with very distinctive plants and animals that have adapted to life in that particular environment. Rainforests have covered large portions of the Earth for millions of years, and can have trees that are 1,000 years-old or more. They are called rainforests because they are among the wettest areas on Earth, receiving anywhere from 80 to 100 inches of rain a year. In most rainforests, the temperature ranges from 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit all year long, and the air is almost always humid. Rainforests have four very distinct layers of trees. The first is the emergent layer which has giant trees growing from 100 to 240 feet tall. These trees have umbrella-shaped crowns that grow high above the rest of the forest. They have their own distinct plant and animal life. The next layer is called the canopy. These trees grow up to 130 feet tall, and they form a tight canopy, or covering, over the rest of the forest which allows very little sunlight to come down. The branches and trunks of these trees are covered with smaller plants and appear to be tied together with hundreds of vines. About 90% of all rainforest animals live way up high in the canopy. The third layer is the understory, and it's very shady. Only about 15% of the sunlight from the canopy falls, and it tends be very warm and humid. Trees and leafy plants that require little sun grow here, with the trees growing to about 60 ft. This layer has many smaller trees, shrubs, vines, and plants, but little air movement. There are many animals and insects living in this layer. The final layer of the rainforest is the forest floor. It is surprisingly dark and less than 2% of the sun's light reaches this area. Because the sun's rays don't shine on the ground, there is very little plant life on the forest…

A rainforest (or rain forest) is a tropical forest that gets a lot of rain. It usually has a lot of plants and animals. A very well known rainforest is the Amazon Rainforest. Most of it is in Brazil, though Ecuador, Colombia, Chile and other countries have parts of it.Scientists say over half of all plant and animal species live in the rainforest. Also more than 1/4 of all medicines come from here. Covering only 2% of the Earth's land area they still provide 40% of the oxygen.. It has an average humidity of 77 to 88% The rainforest has carpet of green rot leaves on the floor. This is called the humus layer. Rainforests are in danger of deforestation because lumber industries are cutting down the trees for profit.…
