The Bottled Water Company
Executive Summary

To: Ginnie Adams, CEO

Report Prepared by: CJ Keist

Topic: Proposal of new flavored bottled water product

The Bottled Water Company provides leading industry technology of multi-level filter water system along with enhanced mineral infusion for improved health benefits for our customers. The Bottled Water Company employees take extreme pride in providing only the highest quality product, while also paying close attention to the impact our products have on the environment. In recent years our sales have become stagnant and below expected sales forecasts. This is due to increased competition from our main competitors offering new flavored water beverages. It is my opinion that we must also offer a new flavored product in order to gain entry into this new growing market. The new flavored water product will still follow our highest standards of multi-level filtering system along with the infusion of mineral additives to keep our product ahead of our competitors with strong health benefits. Attached is my spreadsheet detailing, a very conservative, forecast of expected sales for this new product. It is my expectations that we will most likely exceed these forecasted numbers. I am expecting sales of at least 177,000 units at a sale cost of $1 per 20oz bottle product; a price below our closet competitors pricing of the same sized bottled drink. The cost of new materials needed will be around $36,240, with direct labor at $1,416. After figuring in variable and fixed costs along with sells and administrative

A new chapter in the bottled water industry has been written. Bling h2o, bottled in Tennessee at the English Mountain Spring, is an amalgam of modern sculpture, Hollywood, and truly great water. The brand’s creator, Hollywood screenwriter Kevin Boyd, envisioned a fine water presentation that made a statement equivalent to Cristal Champagne and Tiffany jewels. Boyd knows the importance of image and what your choice in bottled water conveys to the public. In Hollywood it seems the bottled water one carries has become an important prop and it has become the land of the up market waters - bottles are becoming statements of coolness and bling h2o was fashioned to make a defining statement. The mission was to offer a product with an exquisite face to match exquisite taste. The product is strategically positioned to target the expanding super-luxury consumer market…

Rob Price was recently made vice president of Own Brands, which was the private label of H-E-B. The chairman, Charles Butt, had a real interest in growing the sales of the Own Brand product line. At the time, Own Brand represented 19% of sales while national brands accounted for the rest, which was opposite of 30 years ago when Charles took responsibility for the business. Charles gave Rob a goal to increase the sales of Own Brand’s private label by 11% in the next five years to bring it up to a 30-70 ratio of private and national brands, respectively. The increase needed to be across all product lines, but Rob had a specific assignment regarding the Own Brand’s bottled water under the label Glacia.…

The other main factor that contributed to Fiji Water’s success was luck. At the same time Fiji water was starting to be produced, beverage consumption in the United States was going through a large shift in beverage consumption (5). Pepsi Cola and Coca-Cola have been competing with each other for many years through numerous taste tests and television ads. One of the ideas they came up with is water. In the early 1990s Evian and Perrier were the brands that dominated the niche and helped establish bottled spring water’s clean, healthy image. Pepsi first tried to attack this market with bottled and sparkling water but failed. In 1994, Pepsi had the idea of using its bottlers to filter local tap water and offering the resulting product under the name of Aquafina.…
