Keirsey Temperament Strengths
The Keirsey Temperament Sorter is a Personality Quiz, which organizes individuals into one of four temperaments; Guardians, Artisans, Rationales, and Idealists. Every personality class has their strengths and weaknesses. Guardians are described as having the following core characteristics. They are usually seen as dependable, helpful, and hard-working. They are known to be, generally cautious, humble, and focused on and traditions. ("Keirsey Temperament Website - Portrait of the Guardian® (SJ)")
After analyzing my management style and personality, I have found that I have many of the qualities of a Guardian. The guardian type is also referred to as SJ is a social, outgoing person, who is well organized and dependable. In addition to Guardians,

For example, when I am supervising a project, I respect the rights of others and understand my role to guide not micromanage. I try to check in with my coworkers to ensure their work is on track and to know the status of their project. This allows me to see what kind of work everyone is capable of doing on their own. I have also found that leading by example is important because people are willing to work harder especially if they find a manager doing the same work. For example Last year after a record snow storm I helped to transport volunteers for senior snow shoveling program. Even though it was not my project I understood certain things had to get done. Helped to convey volunteers from one side of the city to other
Many characteristics of my personality clash with that of an ideal guardian. For example as a guardian, I am supposed to take pride in being perceived trustworthy and dependable, but I do not go out of my way impress others.
As Guardian, I am supposed to believe traditions are the most important and that holding on to them helps bind a community together. Guardians are often seen as Traditionalists because we try to preserve traditions of the groups we belong. For some people, certain routine help to understand where they belong and how to function. In some aspects I agree but the moment it stops progress I believe it become a hindrance and should be done away

When something goes wrong, I do not always follow the chain of command to fix a problem
When dealing with interoffice politics, I sometimes take things too personally. This trait is also at odds with the Guardian personality. Because guardians tend to rely on authority and have a strong understanding of what’s right and wrong. This sometimes leads to coworkers being treated in an impersonal way which could create a negative working atmosphere.
To combat my weaknesses, I need to begin focusing more on myself and less on work related issues, especially after hours. Walk away from people or circumstances that would aggravate my impulsive behavior. Often these situations will still be waiting after I have had time to think and calmed down. Take a deep breath and discuss the problem with a friend before yelling at someone out of anger. I need to practice calming strategies, such as muscle relaxation, yoga, and cardiovascular exercise. When confronted with a difficult decision I need to begin by writing a list of pros and cons before proceeding. When confronting someone I need to make a mental outline of what I want to say before saying

If the leader or the manager is organized, does everything at its time and in the best way possible, everyone else would also follow that. In high school I worked on a project with some of my friends which was to create a bridge. Because my grades in Physics and Math was higher than others I had to manage the project. My job was to make sure the static equations work fine and also make sure the other parts such as building and designing had no problems. It was a great experience to have the time to see others and guide them to make sure the problems were solved and bridge won’t fall with different weights on them. Our bridge didn’t win the competition but it was a great practice for all of us to learn how to work in a group. For myself all of these help me to prepare myself for the future and understand my responsibilities more than…

I learned that you don’t have to show your authority and that you don’t have to be controlling to be a good leader. To be an effective leader, you have to be able to talk to people and be able to connect to the people you are working with. Letting everyone have a say in whatever decision needs to be made is a great way to get everyone feeling empowered and important. Depending on the type of team you have and the type of people you are working with lets you know what type of leadership style to use. Since our team was very self-motivated and productive, we didn’t have to rely on the leader telling us what to do. He would let the group know what the current situation was and asked how we should go about it. This really helped us to have our own opinions and voice and it worked out well for us.…

This usually takes things from bad to worse. Some strategies I plan to do to improve this weakness include counting to ten and leaving the room. Also taking a few seconds to realize how it doesn’t only affect me but many others as well. Many of my siblings look up to as an example. If I am quick to get angry I will be a bad influence towards them and many others that they could possibly affect later on. Planning to take action on this weakness will further better my personal life and professional life in a work environment and more importantly a school…

Leading by example is a reality and is important to me because it has shaped who I am. I used to look up to certain celebrities and aspired to be like them, which caused me to do certain things that they did. As I got a little older, I started looking towards my older brother as a role model and wanted to be like him, which caused me to develop other certain characteristics that I still possess.…

It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. I have discovered much about fairness, compromise, and responsible qualities that are required to be a "good" leader. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.…

As a manager I feel I need to be an example to others—either positive or negative. It is necessary for me to adopt characteristics from a variety of leadership styles based on the situation at hand. Regardless of the leadership activity needed, it is important to act with integrity, to set realistic goals, to communicate clearly and often, to encourage others, to recognize the successes of other team members, and to inspire them to provide the best of care. Hopefully my actions will be reflected by my staff in the care they give to our service users each day regardless of which style I practice.…

We all have heard the term "lead by example" and to me many people let the true meaning bypass them. Leading my example isn’t just leading by example its setting the standards, either high or low for everyone subsequent to you .When you set standards that's leading by example. A prime example would be when we are in math learning a new concept the teacher teaches the concept and she gives us an example to give us a visual. This example, for most of us is what we look up to when we begin doing the work on our own. So therefore the teacher is leading by example .An effective leader is what they call a person that “leads by example”.…

When I took the personality test in the Temperament Sorter I was classified as a Guardian. This trait is characterized by strong managerial and organizational skills, dependability and seriousness, being down-to-earth and conservative. The Keirsey website describes Guardians as the “cornerstone of society” and claims that they make up 40 to 45 percent of the population. It highlights that the greatest strength in the Guardian trait is my logistical intelligence. It further mentions that, my personality dictates that when given an important choice between two methods, I will choose the one I am more familiar with rather than something new (the experience over experimentation principle). An example is when I want to take my children for an outing, while a new place will bring more excitement and a newer learning experience; I tend to choose the places I am more familiar with. I am very cautious about change, and realizing this I will make a strong effort to allow myself to venture out more and in doing so bring more exciting experiences to the lives of my children as well.…

My personality type is INTJ. I have taken his test on a number of occasions throughout my life and my findings are the same. What strikes me as different was that the scores did not add up to a whole percentage of 100. By this result I had a very low percentile in thinking and low percentile in judging. This is strange because I’m a huge thinker, I also have anxiety which explains why I overthink many things and why I have no marginal preference of thinking over feeling. I am analytical, I am most comfortable working alone and tend to be less sociable than other types. Yet I am prepared to lead if no one else seems up to the task, or if they see a major weakness in the current leadership. As stated by the INTJ I as well tend to be pragmatic, logical, and creative. I do not readily accept authority based on tradition, rank, or title…
