Key factors that were crucial to Google’s early success can be attributed to the following: 1. Partnered with right companies such as AOL & Yahoo spring boarded the company in success with more than 100m search enquiries per day paving the way for subsequent successes. 2. Had the right products such as Adwords, which had 4x more click-­‐through rates than competing products. The company followed up with Google toolbar that further penetrated the market and expanded into the right area of search for mobile devices. 3. Quickly expanded relevant services such as Google news, finance, book search, gmail, calendar documents etc. It also includes strategic acquisition of YouTube & Picasa that provided users with majority of Internet services and it increased stickiness to users achieving the results of 62.4% for searches by December 2007. 4. Mesh organizational structure ensured shares responsibility and teamwork by enabling all parties involved to work together in the case of AdSense. The non-­‐departmental segregation increased teamwork and primed the organization for success. 5. Fast expansion outside of US enabled the company to operate in a global scale that in turn boosted its revenue

    Since the development of Google, there has been a vast amount of information available on various topics or subjects. “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” explains and examines the different ways that the internet has been more useful and beneficial, according to the words of the author, Nicholas Carr. According to the readings, the author represents and expresses his thoughts and ideas using logos.     In the essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid? What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains,” the author Nicholas Carr argues that the Internet has detrimental effects by altering the way we comprehend and the way our brain functions. Carr’s mind is changing because he is not thinking the way he used to think. He used to love reading books and articles, but now he can barely get through two or three pages because his “concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages” (Carr 138). Reading a printed media has become a struggle since Carr is losing the ability to focus on deep thinking. He just skims through the text without actually thoroughly reading it. In reality, we have to struggle to stay focused in a long piece of writing because we use the web so much. Carr believes that deep reading is indistinguishable from deep thinking. However, the Internet does all the thinking for us with a great database of information that can answer all of our questions and many sources online with short passages of text. Everything that the Internet does has become a “shortcut,” so the printed media has to reach those expectations now. Our brain relies on the Internet so much that it starts draining out our ability to think independently. Therefore, according to Carr, the Internet has made him feel “an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with [his] brain…” (Carr 138).     In the article, “How stupid is Google making us?” by William Badke responds to Nicholas Carr’s article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr supports his argument by stating the fact that he has totally lost his ability to think and read and that the longer we work online, the less tolerance we have to concentrate and contemplate. William Badke seems to support his argument but not completely. He discusses his opinion on technology and whether it impacts human thinking.
