Karak Tea
There are different legends about the discovery of tea. One of these myths was the Buddha’s mediation in Canton. According to Nature chronicle, Buddha promised his followers that he would mediate without sleeping for nine years. After five years of mediation, he arrived to an area called Canton and he felt sleepy and tired. He was inspired by the nature and he collected some of the leaves from a tree called Camellia Sinesis. When he ate these leaves, he felt being active. Those leaves were tea leaves.
Introduction:-
There are different ways to make tea, but the most popular way in gulf region is the Indian style. Karak tea is the most famous drink for Arabs. However, in India it’s called Masala Chai because it contains a Masala Chai powder. This powder contains different flavors such as lemon grass, dry ginger, cardamom, cloves and fennel. However, we say Karak tea because it contains one kind of spice which is cardamom (Chadalavada, para.4).
There are different names for this style tea like Chai halib, or Karak Chai or Masala Chai.
We don’t have any problem with the names as long as we are enjoying drinking it.
SO, How can we make Karak Chai?

1. Ingredients:
-Water.
-2 tsp of Black Leaves.
-4 tsp sugar.
- 1 can of evaporated milk.
-Spices: cardamom / saffron.
( Some people use sweet condensed milk rather than sugar and evaporated milk to have richer test)

2. Steps:-
• Add water to saucepan and the heat should be medium.
• Add the tea leaves, sugar and the spices, let it boil for 7 minutes.
• Add the evaporated milk and let it boil for 5 to 7 minutes.
• Strain the tea and use a sieve to remove the tea leaves and other spices.
• Serve it with some cookies or cake and enjoy your afternoon meal.
Conclusion:-
The only difference between the Karak tea and Masala tea is type of spices that are included. In fact in the UAE people prefer to drink Karak at mornings.
