1. Why did you choose your visual symbol? Identify what kind of mood you were trying to project? Explain (5)

I chose my symbol to be the barber's razor. I chose this because it is a huge part of the story. The razor itself is the difference between life and death, because that’s what it symbolizes, death and murder. Like it says in the story “My fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade” and “A razor like this cannot fail . It is the best one I have.” The razor represents the problem because it is the one thing that can change the situation and it’s outcome. The mood I am trying to project would be mystery. This would have to be the mood because in my poster, in the background, there is a man laying in a

I chose him because he demonstrates many characteristics that Captain Torres has. Like Captain Torres, Liev Schreiber is in his forties , he has the appearance of being tough and has a look of authority. Captain Torres is also understanding. He understands that its hard to kill, and he understands when the barber doesn't kill him, even though he had the chance. He would also be considered a risk taker because he knows who the barber is and knows what he can do to him. But still he takes a chance and places himself right into the barbers hands, even though he could be killed right then and there. We could also infer that he is a leader and is intelligent since he is at the rank of captain. I chose Orlando Bloom to play the role of the barber because unlike the captain, the barber is thin, but not weak. He’s also brave. He’d be considered brave by deciding to not kill him. The barber would also be moral. He has the chance to kill Captain Torres, but doesn't because he has morals and knows it’s wrong. He’s honorable because even though he’s a rebel, he doesn't wish to kill, he only see’s himself as a barber not a

The definition of a coward is one to show fear, the barber shows he is a coward by being afraid, seconding guessing himself, and showing weakness. When the captain walks into the barber shop he begins to quiver on the spot, therefore showing how fearful his is of the captain. For example “When I recognized him I started to tremble.” The barber without a doubt is showing terror. When you’re brave and courageous you never doubt yourself and stick to your guns, however the barber does not. In other words, when you plan on doing something you should never back down. On the other hand the barber does back down. For instance, “But what would I do with the body? Where would I hide it? I would have to flee…” Here he begins to think about what would happen if he did kill the captain and therefore leading him to not kill. In addition, the barber says “No one deserves to have someone else make the sacrifice of becoming a murderer.” In other words he is trying to say he doesn’t deserve to be the one to kill him and be called a murderer. Finally, the barber gives off vulnerability by thinking of reducing the amount of pain and suffering to the captain. For example, the barber thinks to himself “I'm sure that one solid stroke, one deep incision, would prevent any pain. He wouldn't suffer.” Caring for the enemy and trying to minimize the amount of pain they will have is true acts of a coward. In conclusion being fearful, doubting oneself, and giving off weakness is a sure fire sign of a coward.…

Captain Torres and the barber are both hardworking and considered heroes, however, they have very different beliefs. The two men are both dubbed as heroes in their own perspective. The barber is noted as so to many rebels because, (as said on page 15), he passes on information on the enemy, Captain Torres and the government, in order to gain the upper hand. On the other hand, Captain Torres murders and mutilates many rebels. This in turn, gives him the respect and admiration of many government supporters and officials. Another characteristic they share is that they are very hardworking, especially when it comes to their job. They exhibit this determination in different ways. The barber is precise with the way he shaves a customer’s beard. He consistently sharpens his razor - not only when he does not have a customer, but also during the shave to make sure no pearl of blood is allowed to seep from its pore. (page 15) Just as the barber does, Torres carries out his job as an executioner with the best of his ability. He plays his role as a military officer well, as proven through his actions. Torres went on a long, four day expedition in search of rebels deep in the woods where he caught, and killed multiple people. (page 13) Despite the fact killing was against his morals, he still did his job without any hesitation. Though these two men may be the alike, they still have their differences. One is against the government while the other is for the government. One may go against their government for their own beliefs, which is what the barber did. The barber states his side when saying, “Yes I was secretly a rebel.” (page 14). Captain Torres, however, supports the government fully. He was a well known executioner amongst the rebels as stated on page . The barber and the executioner are zealous and courageous but they each have their own unique outlook.…

“Just Lather, That’s All” by Hernando Telléz is a story that reveals the values of a government official and a rebel through an in depth illustration of their thoughts and actions. The barber (rebel) and Captain Torres (government official) are similar because they both value human life whereas they are different because the barber values his occupation and innocence and Captain Torres values the government and his reputation. The barber and Captain Torres show that they both value human life as they both show a dislike for murder. The barber shows that he values innocence when he says that no one deserves the sacrifice of becoming a murderer and he shows that he values his occupation because he constantly talks about his pride in his job. Captain Torres shows that he values the government as he does anything the government instructs him to do no matter what his opinion may be on it and he also shows that he values his reputation because he goes the extra mile so that people think he’s a cold blooded killer.…
