Julius Caesar: Hero Or Villain
Julius Caesar Was Julius Caesar a hero or a villain? People have been arguing amongst each other about this question, here is my opinion. Julius Caesar was not a villain but, a hero, he made many reforms and accomplishments during his reign. Julius was an excellent military leader, made many reforms and was a great political leader. First and foremost, he was a great and brilliant general.He took over most of Gaul (Modern day France, Belgium, southern Holland, Germany west of the Rhine River, and most of Switzerland). He led expeditions to Britain a number of times, but none of them were successful. Many people think that he disobeyed the senate to give up his armies because he wanted to start war but that is not the case. The corrupt senate

He reformed the Roman calendar, the first Roman calendar had 10 months with 6 months of 30 days and 4 months of 31 days and there was no winter season that was assigned to any specific month. The whole year lasted only 304 days with 61 days unaccounted for in the winter. The Julian Calendar had 12 months and had 365 days with 366 because of the leap year. Caesar reconstructed destroyed city states (including Carthage), started public jobs for the poor because of unemployment, and brought down the Roman debt. These are a few of the number of reforms he has done in Rome. Third of all, he was a great political leader. He did commit treason by crossing the Rubicon River and invading Rome, but he did this because it was his only choice. He could have either died or gone to prison for doing nothing wrong because of his political opponents who only wanted power or he could invade Rome and stop them. He made the senate larger so it would perform better and improved local gov’t so that it ran better and he even invited his defeated enemies to join the Roman government. He also granted citizenship to foreigners and the poor. These are more ways that he was a hero and not a villain.
