Judge Danforth's Reputation In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
In the Crucible there are many characters who take their reputation matter and think too highly of it. There are some characters in this play that do not care for their reputation in the community. One of the first characters we see that sees highly of the idea of reputations is Reverend Parris. When Mr.Parris finds out about the dancing and possible witchcraft that was going he was more concerned about what people would say about him then the safety of his own daughter. Throughout the play you can see Reverend Parris is scared about his reputation in the community due to the witchcraft trials going on. Out of all the characters Judge Danforth thinks the highest of reputation. Judge Danforth will let lives be taken even if he knows they are innocent just to save his reputation and credibility. Mainly in act three we can see that Judge Danforth will not read Mary Warren's

Mr. Proctor goes through many emotions like anger and guilt due to him having feelings for Abigail. Mr.Proctor thinks somewhat highly of his reputation due to him trying to deny his feelings for Abigail. Elizabeth Proctor accuses Mr. Proctor of cheating and he completely denies it. In act two when Mr.Hale questions Mr.Proctor we as the readers can see that Mr.Proctor tries to defend himself for not going to church which shows an aspect of him trying to save his name and also him trying t not get accused for witchcraft. In act 3 John finally admits to his sin by admitting his relations with Abigail to the whole court which shows that he has opened up from the inside and no longer has guilt or anger. Mr.Proctor does this for wife and doesn’t care about what others think of him. Mr.Proctor's reputation is more of him not caring what others think of him, but more of what he thinks of himself.
