Joyride
In the book Joyride by Anna Banks, the setting of the book is a high school mainly. Most of the action in the book takes place at the high school. The book doesn’t say when it takes place, but i feel like it takes place in the early 2000’s. I feel that the author picked this as a setting because a high school is where a lot of your time is spent as a teenager, and more than likely where you’re gonna meet a lot of people. The main character of the book is Carly Vega. Carly isn’t very tall, she has long thick brown hair, brown eyes, and has a sweet smile. Carly has a shy personality, she keeps to herself. But, towards the end she’s more dangerous and carless. One of her good traits is that since she’s caring, she saved a man in the first

The protagonist of this book is named Susan McConnell. Susan is a sixteen year old junior at Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a loner and mostly stays at home to study. She is a hardworking student and is very unpopular. Personally, I like Susan. Throughout the book she was the only one who wanted to do the right thing when the other characters in the book accidently killed Mr. Griffin. The one thing that I didn’t like about Susan was how…

In the novel they give us the impression that the setting is in modern day Syracuse. The main character and the person that tells most of the story is Melinda Sordino. In the novel she is a struggling teen that had to deal with getting raped at a party a summer before her first day of high school. At the party she ends up getting drunk and meeting another character named Andy Evans. After getting raped she panics and calls 911 and the police break into the party and they arrest some of her friends for underage drinking. That summer she lost her friends because of what she had done at the party and held grudges without knowing she had gotten raped by Andy Evans. Her grades end up getting affected tremendously and she looses who she was before getting raped, which was a happy and girly teenage girl. Throughout the novel she dresses in dull clothing and try’s to cope with the situation. At the end of the novel she finally snaps and tells her old friends what had happened and ends up as a sort of “inspiration” or hero and gains the respect of her former friends and high school and try’s to move on from that step by step.…

The setting of the book takes place mostly in Washington D.C. This story consists of three key events. The event that starts off The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is when all the girls are at Carmen’s house. They all try on a pair of jeans that end up fitting all of them, even though all the girls have different body types. Each week the girls would send the jeans to each other, while they were on their summer vacations. Lena went to Greece, Carmen went to South Carolina, Bridget went to Mexico, and Tibby stayed home in Maryland. Since they sent the pants back and forth to a different girl every week that’s why it’s called “the traveling pants.” While on vacation all the girls meet new people and become friends. At the end they all get back together and share their summer experiences.…

The novel is set in the 1970s when there were many political conflicts, such as the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Act and the Women Liberation. These conflicts had influenced Robert Cormier to write and develop one of the main themes in the story, the government’s abuse of power. Furthermore, the novel is located in a small town called Monument, Massachusetts but Adam’s imaginary travels set out for Rutterbug, Vermont. However, at the end novel the reader’s will find out that the entire bike journey only occurs within the confinement of an institution in Vermont. The reason why Robert Cormier uses small towns as his settings is because he was raised and lived in these areas. The tones of the novel are suspenseful, vague and enthralling. This is because the reader is only given enough information to understand what is immediately happening and they have to fill in the blanks as they go along. Moreover, when new information is revealed both the reader and the main character, Adam learns about it together. Thus, the tones have an effect on the reader’s response towards the…

The main character Paige Hancock is a typical teenage girl in high school with some problems. After the death of her boyfriend Aaron she is struggling to join the real world. With the push of her friends and family, she finally joins the world. This new found confidence and plan throws her in for a loop. The setting of this story is set in a tight-knit town named Oakhurst, Indiana. Where people are known for the good and bad, they have done while rumors spread quickly. The main setting for this story is Oakhurst High School. Oakhurst is a very typical high school with the clicks, and the teachers are mean, boring, and strict. Paige does not describe the high school in great detail but the way she and her friends feel towards school, I can get a picture of Oakhurst. I think the author wrote the setting this way so she can develop it in the story. The author's development of the setting is very simple. She builds on a setting by describing the people in detail or how Paige feels. This allows me to get a better picture of the setting without the author going into much…
