When Chris Wallace of Fox news began he led off with a bold statement of how the US government was accusing Russia of an invasion to the Ukraine. He interviewed the chairman of the house intelligence committee, Mike Rogers. On the contrary Chuck Todd interviewed John Kerry the Secretary of State. I noticed immediately the different levels of authority between the two sources. Chris Wallace solidified my theory when stating that John Kerry was not made available to Fox news but was to the other networks even though they were an hour apart. During the interviews the political bias was evident. Chris Wallace and Mike Rogers focused more on the history of President Obama and the ineffectiveness of his idle threats by continuously bringing up the so-called red line that was crossed in Syria and the use of chemical weapons. Meanwhile during the Chuck Todd and John Kerry…
Zinser then makes the claim that ‘fake’ news causes two vices, the first being deception due to the lack of valuing objectivity in their reports. The second is dilution, both in the quality of media from the variance of online sources as well as adding excessive news reports attracting more viewers to what is typically a hard news source. Zinser also reminds us of the beneficial aspects in ‘fake’ news. Empirical data suggests a trend that either viewers of The Daily Show are better informed than those watching hard news because of its effectiveness, or, on the other hand that it attracts viewers who already know about the current events being discussed, evidence of its success.…
It’s no secret how powerful the news networks are. They connect everyone in this country through television media, and what adult doesn’t occasionally watch the news? But the news doesn’t cater to different groups of people. Think of the news as one size fits all socks: for most people they’re either too big or too small. The news channels have a large heterogeneous target they market themselves to. In 2010, an average of 21.6 million Americans watches one of…
While reviewing both Fox News and MSNBC, I tried both to find comparative narration in opinion and objective based reporting, and found it quite difficult. Whether on TV or the internet sites for the respective news outlets, it was a strenuous activity to find reports that provided commentary on an exact issue. I noticed that several times, when on the websites, one would have articles surrounding what they projected as an important news bulletin, while the other would have no mention of such details, no matter how deeply I searched.…
The apparent desire by an overwhelming majority in the mainstream media to see a president reelected has never been as obvious as it is today. Yes, there are places where people can get other points of view, but if you’re looking at the mainstream media—CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post—there is undoubtedly a powerful bias favoring President Obama. The media covers conflict, and because we live in a 24/7 news world, if there is no conflict deemed news-worthy, the media must create it.…
ratings. On an average day CNN averages 150 thousand views and FOX news averages about…
In America, there is media bias because ratings tend to increase when the attention span is more focused on the issues at hand. For instance, people would much rather documentaries or visuals involving chaos and violence rather than a humanly interview. Therefore, media becomes biased because the chosen headliners and stories are consumed with drama which draws larger audiences. On the other hand, political views as portrayed in the news are more likely to be liberal than conservative. Although there is little evidence to support this claim, the political views in different forms of media are usually liberal dependent on social issues such as feminism, gay rights, and welfare. Depending on the carrier of media, a company such as Fox News or CBS might edit the actual news in order to fit their persona or political views behind the company.…
The internet is the largest collection of accessible information ever, so it comes as no surprise that the internet is a major part of daily life. The use of the internet is so common that it has made its way into some important areas of society. Namely, the workplace, the educational system, and general leisure time, in and out of the home. However, people should understand that there are allot of unreliable sources that are waiting for you to enter their domain. Granted, there are reliable sources, as well. The difference is that a reliable source is there to provide readers or viewers with correct information. Namely, written and created by someone who has expertise in that subject like Microsoft. On the other hand, an unreliable source is based on opinion not fact, contains little real information, and can be misleading. I found Fox News to be an unreliable source of information. Moreover, this news station either on the internet or on television must never be considered a dependable resource, because of untruths, political ideals, and misconstruing quotes.…
That is the Information that CNN and The New York Times are sending out to us viewers, they are being perfidiousness to us. The news sources are giving us one sided stories that are planned to meet their opinions instead of just putting out the facts and leaving us to interpret it. Studies show that humans are more likely to choose something because they heard of it on the tv or because someone else choose it. This means that CNN and The New York Times have made trap that everyone is walking into. Also 38% of americans watch CNN each day, that’s a big number. Also 88% of people read a New York Times paper each month, meaning that millions of lives are being filled with bias facts making it so the TV is deciding that person's likability and not his actions. What’s worse is that CNN has admitted to making up stories, and being rude to the president. This is a quote from one of CNN’s main editors “Yeah that whole Russia hacking the elections was just a cover up so Hillary didn’t lose so bad”. How angry does that make you feel? Half of the american population believed that only to learn it’s false. What’s worse is that CNN still has bias and hasn’t fixed their problems. Also CNN has admitted to their own pravda. However you can get them to change by watching other news networks who are not bias. This will hit their income hard and force them to change their ways or their news network…
Fox News, officially known as Fox News Channel, is an American cable news channel, that is owned by Fox Entertainment Group, a branch of 21st Century Fox. The channel broadcasts primarily from studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York City, New York. It was founded by Rupert Murdoch on October 7th, 1996, who hired former Republican Party media consultant Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. Growing during the late 1990s and 2000s, Fox News has become one of the most dominant cable news networks in the country. Although Fox News has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party, its employees have denied the bias in their news reportings. And as of February 2015, approximately 94,700,000…
Many people watch media outlets that are biased. Fox News, one of the most viewed news programs, televises content that is seemingly biased towards liberals. Like most news programs Fox News provides their audience with content that would not coincide with the views of an individual that has a more liberal mind frame. Subjects such as abortion and stem cell research have gained a massive amount of notoriety within recent years. Fox News has chosen a conservative approach when speaking on the subjects.…
The O’Reilly Factor has a reputation for exerting a very conservative overtone, naturally many question whether the typical “news standards” are being followed.…
Punditfact, a branch of Politifact, did a study, and found Fox News to have only told the truth 18 percent of the time for the statements they checked. And even of that 18 percent, only 8 percent of what they said was completely “True.” The other 10 percent was rated as “Mostly True.” A staggering 60 percent comments were found to be either “Mostly False,” “False,” or “Pants on Fire.” The other 22 percent were rated “Half True.” Obviously, the reason conservatives love fox news is because fox confirm what they think is true. If they listened to a reliable news source, they’d say it’s all lies – because it contradicts their way of…
Bill O’Reilly and Fox News, which is a newer news station compared to all the other top news outlets, seems to always be getting themselves in trouble whether it be with the law or simply bad public relations. It may be true that the company is not capable of getting itself in trouble, but rather the people of the company that are, but when a company creates an environment in which you feel as if there will be no repercussions it becomes easier to slip into a situation that you may not be able to get yourself out of (Blake 1). At Fox, it has become apparent that this is the case – especially when discussing the higher-ups in the company. Over the past 2 years, two of the most well-known names in rightward-leaning media, Roger Ailes and Bill…
An article titled Governor Says He Won’t Sign ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill Until Changes Are Made was written by Dana Liebelson and published by the Huffington Post. In a similar article titled Arkansas governor seeks changes in religious freedom bill was written by an unknown author and was published by Fox News. The Huffington Post has a liberal side versus Fox News has a conservative side. In both articles they are discussing the same issue however both articles are tailored for their point of view of the issue. Both sources are biased about the issue because they tailored the article so that their viewers would agree.…
