1. In your journal, write the eight areas of the self-assessment ad record your scores for each, as follows:

_____ 1. Accepting personal responsibility
_____ 2. Discovering self-motivation
_____ 3. Mastering self-management
_____ 4. Employing interdependence
_____ 5. Gaining self-awareness
_____ 6. Adopting lifelong learning
_____ 7. Developing emotional intelligence
_____ 8. Believing in myself

2. Write about the areas on the self-assessment in which you had your highest scores.

I have really excellent self management. I feel I manage my time and keep things organized very well. For as long as I can remember I've kept a full planner of due dates, times I work, birthdays, and any other upcoming events. So as I'm sure you can guess, I was very pleased to see that I scored well on the self management portion of this self-assessment. Another thing I was happy to see on this self-assessment was that I did not score under a 40 in any category. To me, this shows I could use some help perfecting my study skills, self-awareness, responsibility, and motivation but generally, I am not to far off from being a successful student. One thing that came as a shock to me was that my highest score was discovering self-motivation. I feel I sometimes lack motivation to save money, do an assignment, or even wake up and come to class at 8am so to see this as my strongest area was quiet the surprise.

3. Write about the areas of the self-assessment in which you had your lowest scores.

I was disappointed to see that I was grouped with people who are "solitary, seldom requesting, and even rejecting, offers of assistance from those who can help" in the believe in themselves category. I feel I can focus best when I am working alone. It's not that I do not want help when I need it, but rather study groups and things of that nature distract me. I work best independently and strongly dislike group work. I do not feel ashamed to ask questions or seek the

In his article “The Loss of The Creature,” Walker Percy presents the case that people or so-called “creature’s” experiences are most often trivial because of our actions. Percy believes we can only truly enjoy these experiences if we leave the old ways of thinking . Only then can we see the true beauty of the experience. Percy gives three examples to prove his point. His first example describes a tourist’s plans to go see the Grand Canyon. Oftentimes, tourists have preconceived expectations about the wonder, and feel that they are let down with a dreary sight rather than the things they have fantasized. The second example Percy uses is of a couple who, while wandering through Mexico looking for an “unspoiled” place to get lost in. They stumble upon an Indian village and live with the locals for a little while. After returning home, they tell their friends that they had an experience better than they expected. The third example Percy uses is that of a biology teacher who gave his students a dogfish to dissect. The students look at the dogfish as another specimen to be dissected for a grade instead of trying to learn about it as a piece of unexplored creation. In his article “The Loss of The Creature,” Walker Percy attempts to show how in our experiences we do not really see what we think we see. I believe he was correct, however, I did not always believe this. When I first read “The Loss of The Creature,” it did not make sense to me. After rereading it and thinking about what Percy said, I started to understand.…

After carefully reviewing my result of Self-Assessment Scoring Sheet by Skip Downing, I believe that it was a great opportunity to identify what is true about me. I scored higher in the areas of accepting personal responsibility and believing in yourself. Additionally, I could have identified what is true about me from the result of mine because I scored higher in the areas that I usually think as important aspects to be a part of society. To put it in more detail, I would like to explore how I feel about these scores. Even though there are some remarkable aspects that I need to pay attention to have a successful student life, I am satisfied with my higher score areas. The reason why is while accepting self responsibility can be also…
