Think for a moment about the last product you purchased. What was the product? What is the brand name of the product? How would you describe the customer for this product? What is the product’s closest brand competitor? Explain why you chose this brand rather than the competitor’s brand. How did the marketing for the product influence your purchase?

The last product I Purchased was sugar lip balm from the Fresh cosmetic line at Nordstrom. I would describe this product to other consumers as rich, moisturizing lip balm with 15 SPF. Fresh is also a natural beauty line so harsh chemicals aren’t in their product. I would describe the customer for this product as one that doesn’t want harsh chemicals but wants results. Fresh also offers lemon bath sugar cub, that leaves your skin feeling flawless. I think the closest competitor they have when it comes to quality, price, and organic composition would be the philosophy line that is carried at most retailers. I chose this brand over the competitors first because the sample I was given was superb, but also the line is very light and refreshing. The entire product is based off of organic items and naturally found items. The results were outstanding and I could definitely feel a difference since I usually have dry lips. Fresh doesn’t do much advertising however the sales associates were very knowledgeable and when I explained what I desired in a lip balm they quickly brought me over to the line. The displays at the counter, displayed their desire for organic representation. I would definitely recommend this product to others.

“To See Who Was Best on the Plantation: Enslaved Fighting Contests and Masculinity in the Antebellum Plantation South”, written by Sergio Lussana, gives us insight into the life of those on Southern plantations from the male slave perspective. In comparison to the amount of information available on the role of women in slavery, there is surprising less information about men. This may be attributed to the fact that slave communities on plantations were matriarchal societies. Nevertheless, Lussana offers valuable information based largely on the accounts of former slave diaries.…

In the passage “The Men We Carry in Our Minds,” by Scott Russel Sanders he discusses his view on men and women. The quote above has a meaning that goes deeper than gender roles, but in this particular passage the meaning is that the way one perceives women and men is all about their experiences with women and men in their throughout their lives. The authors perception on men is different than those of the women in his class because the women in his class have fathers who hold more prestigious jobs, such as doctors and lawyers, and his father worked his way up to a job where he didn’t have to get his hands dirty. The father’s hardwork paid off when he had his higher, less demanding position, but his body gave out on him completely before he reached the age of sixty-five, as written in the passage.…

In Norman Cousins’ essay “Who Killed Benny Paret?”, he takes a strong stand against violence in boxing. Throughout the essay, he provides graphic descriptions of the fighter, “Benny Paret was killed in the ring”. After reading his essay, Cousins has convinced me that boxing should be outlawed. In my opinion, boxing doesn’t deserve to be called a sport. It’s just a very dangerous game that can cause deaths to amateur and professional boxers in matches every year. The aim of boxing is to hurt the other man, and above all to knock him down. This “game” appeals to the worst and most violent parts of human nature. As in “Who Killed Benny Paret?”, Cousins states that Benny Paret “was hit hard in the head several times, went down, was counted out, and never came out of the coma”. Medical studies also show that boxing can lead to long – term brain – damage, and to illnesses. Namely, Michael Watson are disabled for life as a result of beating in the ring. For these reasons, banning boxing would mean an end to needless deaths, injuries and brain – damage. On the other hand, boxing makes violence look cool. The money and fame that a few champion boxers get by hitting people send the wrong message to young people. Children are easily influenced by what they watched on television; and if they see two men punching each other, they will think that behavior is acceptable in society. Therefore, watching boxing may cause them acting and thinking violently in real life, which leads crimes to our community. To sum up, we should not let men do this to each other, we should not offer money to encourage them to fight and we should also ban boxing as a form of public entertainment.…
