Josquin De Prez Analysis
My composer’s name is Josquin de Prez. Josquin is a French man, born in the country of Hainaut, Belgium. His actual birth year is 1450. One other thing we do know is that he died on August 27, 1521 in Conde’-sur-l’Escaut, France. Very little is known about his early life, so we are unaware of where he was schooled and educated. We do know that as a young boy Josquin’s father and mother died so he had to go live with his aunt and uncle. His family’s names are unknown due to the fact that much of his early life is unknown.
In 1460 Josquin served as choir-boy at St. Quentin. This was his work as a young boy. Josquin was thought to be the best composer of that time. He was a singer/ song-writer, and composed many songs of many different categories.Martin Luther King Junior said, Josquin de Prez was the mast of the notes.”
Chapter 2: The Music Career Josquin’s music sounds extremely happy and encouraging. His music most likely represents the high points in his life. It could be representing when he first became the choir boy at the church. At this point in Josquin’s life he was very happy because had gotten over his parents deaths and he was fulfilling his dreams. It sounds like a mix of a’capella and opera. The voices in this song sound very high and beautiful. One specific voice stands out to me the most. The very first thing I notice about the music is a certain voice that can be heard in the background. This voice most likely can’t be heard if you do not listen very closely to the background music. If you want to hear what I hear then, I suggest that you listen very carefully. This voice sounds so interesting because it is also the very first voice that you hear in the song.
