Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Jonathan Livingston Seagull In the book, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach there are many life lessons to be learned, but there are a select few that really affected me. Some of the lessons I got out of the book were how to live freely, how to make tough choices, how to challenge your own limiting self-beliefs, and how to reach your own self-discovery. Each lesson has its own purpose and would definitely be useful in my life at this point in time. The first lesson that became obvious to me was the lesson of how to live freely. To be able to live the way you want and not caring about the opinions of others. This seems to me to be the most important lesson I have learned from this book, because even though this may be the hardest lesson to follow I believe it gives you the greatest satisfaction. I have learned in recent years that by just following the “flock” you can cause yourself to be very disappointed, but by following your own heart you can surprise yourself as to how happy you can be. Starting now and continuing into the future I plan to live by my own values and not be ashamed if I think differently from the rest of my peers. To truly live freely though, it is inevitable that some tough choices will have to be made and that is the second lesson I attained from the book. Throughout our lives we will be faced with choices and it is our decision to either choose the path that will let us be truly and freely happy or the path that others think we should follow. Applying this to my own life may be a little hard at first because it is always difficult to go against the grain but I think that over time by gradually making proper choices for myself I could finally reach my true happiness.
Another lesson that affected me was how we need to challenge our own limiting self-beliefs. From the time we are born we are told what is right, what is wrong, and what to believe. Up until I read this book I never thought of any reason as to why I should even

There are some lessons that can be picked up from Message of the Mountain. One is about learning to accept change, because change is the only thing permanent in our lives. Everything changes in this world, so there is no way to resist it anyways. Another is that we should learn to say no. Saying no to wrong things will always be the right thing to do even if doing so means losing everything. Lastly, we should not lie, because lying could lead to broken trust and relationship.…

Throughout the novel, the author emphasizes life is a journey, not a destination, and that the real treasure is in the journey itself. “There is only one way to learn. It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey.” The same could be said for success or happiness. It is in the journey where you will find your true self.…

I have only read four books my entire life for school, but this is one is the best I have read. There were numerous things that I learned from the book. The one that hit me the hardest was it's hard to see people living in shame because they can cover it up really well, almost like it doesn’t bother them at all. I grew up in a middle class family and simply didn't understand what it meant to be so broke that you are ashamed to be around people who have money. The thought never crossed my mind, ever.…

Lessons are told so others can see the significance of a story or event. They are learned through instruction and support from others and by personal experience. Several characters in Ernest Gaines' A Lesson Before Dying experienced this, particularly Jefferson and Grant. A motto I got out of this book is that upbringings lead to opportunities. This means that not only do things happen by chance, they also happen because of their upbringings. Opportunities arise when you apply yourself and allow yourself to become involved. The longer you do these things, the better chance you have at growing as a person and in life. Bu not every person has the motivation to apply themselves in everyday life.…
