1 During the so-called Reverse Revolution of the 90-s in Russia many people were eager to try their hand in business. Even those who had no idea what kind of business or what business is at all wanted to become rich as quick as possible. So this guy, a typical town dweller by the way, decided to raise pigs and moved into the country. Somebody advised him that assuring it’s going to be a very easy and profitable business. This Somebody even gave him a few practical tips, saying how to start the whole matter: “ You just buy yourself a good big pig then bring her to a good boar with a certain reputation. As soon as the boar would cover and get mated with your pig then you may start counting your first piglets and then will be more and of them and they will make you rich.” So our new Russian Businessman did all as he was told: bought a huge pig, then put her into a wheelbarrow and drove her to the other side of the village to mate with a locally famous boar. The boar did his business and the man brought his pig back home. Rather tired he went to bed but first thing in the morning he rushed to the pigsty to count his piglets. But alas, there were no piglets! So the man thought “perhaps the boar hasn’t done his business properly let’s put them together again. So again the pig is put into a wheelbarrow, the wheelbarrow is driven to the other side of the village and the boar is doing his business again. Next morning, guess what? Still no piglets, not a single one! The man quite bewildered what could be possibly wrong, as his last effort put the pig into the wheelbarrow and dragged it to that flipping boar. The boar definitely did his business. Nothing Seems wrong with the boar at all. Ok, the man absolutely exhausted brought his pig back. In the morning being unable to do it himself the man asked his wife to go to the pigsty and see if there are any piglets. The wife soon came back. Well? – the man asked impatiently – how many of them has

The story ends with the pigs refuting the rules that were the tenets of the rebellion. “The creatures looked from pig to man, and from man to pig; but already it was impossible to say which was which”. This shows that the farm is no longer democratic, and the pigs are now just like men, the former dictators.…

Between 1800 and 1939 Russia underwent through a severe regime change. The people of Russia were in a state of great economic disparity, and the lower class faced hunger, poverty, etc. The lower class had very little of the grain, land, and fiscal control that was available in Russia, such pretext of large income disparity gaps and unbalanced control of GDP were the pre-requisites se in place for the takeover of socialism. And such is what happened. Within this time period Russia went through a proletariat revolution of communism aiming have the workers of the world unite and free themselves from capitalist oppression to create a world run by and for the working class. However even though they underwent this major social-economic change, conditions in Russia stayed around the same. We still saw that Russia was under leadership of a Totalitarian authority. And maintained the same economic conditions where the consumer-based market never developed and the population was largely rural and the economy was agricultural based.…

The primary issue that Old Major has with the principle of working for man is that the animals do the work for no benefit, while Mr. Jones lives a life of excess. Old major is disgruntled by the fact that the man barks orders at his animals, and the animals remain malnourished and neglected even though they do the bulk of the man’s work. Soon after Napoleon and Snowball seize control of Animal Farm, as the animals work tenaciously in the fields, the pigs “…did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others” (50). The pigs’ integrity continues to decline as the story unfolds; the reader sees that they become more akin to the parasitic man which they had sought to be liberated from than diligent leaders they portrayed themselves to be. The pigs, who have taken the place of man at the farm, now begin to reap the benefits of the other animals’ work.…

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Lord Acton). The novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, demonstrates multiple ways how power was abused during the time of the Russian Revolution. This book displays many parallels with history, for example, how the animals on the farm represent the people of Russia. On the other hand, the pigs, that portray the leaders of Russia, who wanted nothing but authority which lead to corruption. In interest of gaining more privileges and power, Squealer persuades the animals to let the pigs sleep in the beds using guilt and fear tactics.…

    Russian Formalism

Russian formalism. A school of literary theory and analysis that emerged in Russia around 1915, devoting itself to the study of literariness, i.e. the sum of 'devices' that distinguish literary language from ordinary language. In reaction against the vagueness of previous literary theories, it attempted a scientific description of literature (especially poetry) as a special use of language with observable features. This meant deliberately disregarding the contents of literary works, and thus inviting strong disapproval from Marxist critics, for whom formalism was a term of reproach. With the consolidation of Stalin's dictatorship around 1929, Formalism was silenced as a heresy in the Soviet Union, and its centre of research migrated to Prague in the 1930s. Along with 'literariness', the most important concept of the school was that of defamiliarization: instead of seeing literature as a 'reflection' of the world, Victor Shklovsky and his Formalist followers saw it as a linguistic dislocation. or a 'making strange'. In the period of Czech Formalism. Jan Mukarovsky further refined this notion in terms of foregrounding. In their studies of narrative, the Formalists also clarified the distinction between plot (sjazet) and story (fabula). Apart from Shklovsky and his associate Boris Eikhenbaum, the most prominent of the Russian Formalists was Roman Jakobson, who was active both in Moscow and in Prague before introducing Formalist theories to the United States. A somewhat distinct Russian group is the 'Bakhtin school' comprising Mikhail Bakhtin, Pavlev Medvedev, and Valentin Voloshinov; these theorists combined elements of Formalism and Marxism in their accounts of verbal multi-accentuality and of the dialogic text. Rediscovered in the West in the 1960s, the work of the Russian Formalists has had an important influence on structuralist theories of literature, and on some of the more recent varieties of Marxist literary criticism.…
