I answered A because the answer choices overwhelmed me. Three of the choices involved the brain, and so I assumed B couldn’t be the answer and that I had forgotten to read this in the text. The answer, B, on page 97, is in the discussion of the reflex arc. Although the pain messages get sent to the brain, the body already reacts to the pain without help from the brain.
