When Congress formed the "Continental Navy," Jones offered his services and was commissioned as first lieutenant. His first ship was the Alfred. The navy at this time consisted of the ships Alfred and Columbus, the brigantines Andrew Doria and Cabot and the sloop Providence. Thirteen frigates were ordered to be built. As lieutenant of the Alfred and later the Providence, Jones gained many skills and a variety of experience in naval warfare. In 1777 he sailed in the "Ranger" for France, where he struck up a connection with the American commissioner in Paris, with Benjamin Franklin and at Quiberon forced the French to salute the American flag. It was the first time the American flag had been hoisted in a foreign…
Many of Jones acknowledgements in this story come from self-accomplishments through reading comics and violent media that has led his path to success. He states how he “followed the Hulk to make new friends in the geek world.” This statement can emphasize on how he had things in common with other people at his school and allowed him to be outspoken. These comics gave him courage to stand up and be himself, but it could have also led him to be crazy and unstable in the head. It seems…

Jim Jones was a founder who founded The People’s Temple. The People’s Temple is best known for the November 18, 1978 death of over 900 Temple members in Jonestown, Guyana, along with nine others at a nearby airstrip and in Georgetown. Jim Jones was born in a rural community in Indiana close to the border of Ohio. His parents were James Thurman Jones who was a World War I veteran and Lynetta Putnam. In 1934, during the Great Depression Jones’ parents, due to economic struggle, were forced to move the family to nearby Lynn, Indiana. Aeneas and Jones were both extremely dedicated to their goals. Aeneas continued to lead his people forward and toward their destinies despite many setbacks, such as the attack from the Trojan horse and the death of his wife. Jones was committed to finding The Ark despite the competitors and snakes, which he feared greatly, in his way. Though, despite this similar dedication, the two men had drastically different outlooks on their lots in life. Aeneas was reluctant to continue his journey; in fact, he truly only kept moving forward because of his sense of duty to his people and country and because he felt as if he couldn’t escape his fate. Indiana Jones was the complete opposite, he loved his work and found enjoyment in traveling the world in search of rare artifacts. His search for The Ark was driven partially by his sense of responsibility to keep The Ark from falling into the wrong hands, but it was mostly driven by his own desire to go after the legendary artifact. Jones was passionate about his mission and this key difference keeps him from being the most similar to…

Jones claimed his father was associated with the Ku Klux Klan. Growing up Jones was seen as a weird child, with a great obsession for religion and death. It was brought to the attention that he would perform funerals for animals and even killed a cat with a knife. In his family his father did not work, while his mother worked to support the family. So Jones grew up as a wild child just on his own. In the documentation, Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple, Jones brings out how when growing up there was “feeling as an outcast, I’d early developed a sensitivity for the problems of blacks”. (Nelson) This brought Jones at an early age to not segregate against African Americans. When the separation of Jones’ parents occurred he moved with his mother Lynetta to Richmond where he graduated early from Richmond High School in 1948. Jones then attended Indiana University at…

Jones helped around the church and rectory with cleaning, cooking, maintenance, and grounds work. Father Ryan informed Jones, at the age of nine, that his father had died.…
