John Kramer's Values And Lessons
To understand the values and lessons, first, let's look at the summary of the whole franchise. A man named John Kramer, as known as Jigsaw, is the main character of the series, also the antagonist. He lost his unborn child due to his wife accident and soon he was diagnosed with colon cancer and a frontal lobe tumor ("John Kramer", 2018). He started to suffer from depression, which led him to the decision of getting himself killed in a car accident but fortunately, he was still alive despite severe injury. This was the turning point that he changed his mind wanting to live when his dead was awaiting. He then decided to spend the rest of his life testing other people's will to live so that they can value their lives and others'. Throughout the franchise, I have learnt a lot about his ideal. In almost every movie of the series, he stated his reason for putting people in his game. Those people were guilty, and might deserve the death, but he explained, "Everyone deserves a chance" (Saw VI, 46:05). Certain people were chosen for his games, and this is the reason, "Those people are so ungrateful to be alive" (Saw, 28:49), "Those who don't appreciate life do not deserve life" (Saw II, 47:13), "These people have no respect for the lives that they're destroying" (Saw VI, 23:05).
