John Coffey Character Analysis
Character Descriptions

Paul Edgecomb:

Paul is the “Head Honcho” or lead warden on E-block. He is the one who leads the mission to heal Warden Moores wife with John Coffey. He is a very friendly, kind, and forgiving man. He is in charge of all the executions on E-Block. He is also blessed with a piece of John Coffey’s gift greatly extending his lifespan.

John Coffey:

John Coffey is one of the most famous inmates on E-Block. He was convicted of murdering and raping two girls but it is later revealed that it was not his doing. He is very kind and childish. He has healing abilities said to be the gift of God. He heals Mr. Jingles, Paul Edgecomb’s bladder infection, and Warden Moores wife. He in the end is executed because there isn’t enough evidence to prove his innocence

He is kind-hearted and innocent at heart. He befriends Mr. Jingles the mouse and makes him his companion. He also befriends all of the wardens and John Coffey. In the end Delacroix was brutally executed due to a purposeful mistake in the execution process by Percy Wetmore.

Percy Wetmore:

Percy Wetmore is seen as an antagonist type character. He has a short temper and is too selfish and prideful. Percy has an obsession with killing the mouse on E-Block later named Mr. Jingles. He grows a hatred toward Eduard Delacroix because Delacroix befriends the mouse Mr. Jingles. Because of this he sabotages Delacroix’s execution causing him to have a terribly painful death.

“Wild Bill” Wharton:

Wild Bill was one of the more disliked inmates due to his terrible behavior and insane demeanor. He just like Percy was seen as an antagonist type character. He constantly attacked and played tricks on the wardens and constantly put in solitary confinement. Wild Bill turned out to be the true murderer of the two girls that Coffey was convicted of killing. He was later shot to death by Percy

Krakauer wrote that Chris McCandless was, "green, and he overestimated his resilience, but was sufficiently skilled to last for sixteen weeks on a little more than his wits and ten pounds of rice"(Krakauer 182). In this quote it seems that Krakauer thought that McCandless was well equipped with his skills, so that made moderately prepared to survive in any situation. I feel that McCandless was rather prepared, yet again he never could have been fully prepared for the unexpected. My opinion is that McCandless was vaguely aware of the struggles that he would encounter in the Alaskan wilderness such as his epiphany that "happiness is only real when shared" was realized when his body was dying of starvation. I believed that he found what he was…

As analysis is conducted into the characters of both Chief Bromden and Randle McMurphy, it is easy to conclude that both have characteristics and preform actions that can be considered heroic. Physically both Bromden and McMurphy are huge. But, unlike McMurphy, Bromden does not have the self-confidence to match his gigantic exterior. This contrast in personality is due to the idea that Bromden has constantly been maltreated for the entirety of his life. McMurphy, on the other hand, refuses to be brought down because of his indomitable spirit.…

I genuinely did not expect to learn this much from the book Unbroken. The story of Louie Zamperini was unexpectedly much more understandable and relatable than I first imagined. Seeing the main character was a former war hero, I found it surprising I was able to connect to him as I happen to be fourteen. In my opinion, readers can easily compare similar situations in their life, regardless of their age. A point often overlooked, Louie is a true survivor. He was stranded forty-seven days on a crammed raft, as well as beaten without remorse at a prison camp for two years. Louie was stripped of his friends as he watched them either be transferred or slowly die. He witnessed many accounts of sexual abuse to innocent and helpless animals, as well…

Their perfect escape could have worked out but, the key to the recreation yard was missing. A guard by the name Miller had a chance to hide the key in the toilet where he was held hostage. “When the breakout was discovered the distress sirens of Alcatraz wailed, indicating grave trouble at the prison, and the sound could easily be heard from the shores of San Francisco. The Coast Guard and the Marines were mobilized to furnish the support of demolition and weapon experts, and all the off-duty correctional officers were brought in to help take back the cellhouse from the armed and desperate convicts.” (Battle of Alcatraz, pg1). The violents increase when the inmates realized that there escape plan was coming to an end. It was horrifying and gruesome. The rifles were unloaded on the guards trapped in the cells. The Marines and the guards tried to clear out each cell block to get a handle on the situation. They even threw hand grenades into the window and made holes in…

“Brubaker” was a very interesting film that showed how hard it is to make prison reforms. The new warden, Henry Brubaker, initially enters the prison as an inmate so that he can have a real look at the corruption and ill of the jail. What he witnesses as a prisoner in the Arkansas jail is horrendous. He witnesses an inmate raping another inmate in the dormitory in front of everyone else, abuse and beating of prisoners, and inhumane and unsanitary conditions. There is also a lot of corruption from the prisoners up to the current warden. Food is being taken out of the prison and sold and the prisoners are left to eat scraps. In the movie it shows prisoners cleaning rabbits to eat, and people bidding for certain foods with cash. Brubaker…
