Overall, community service is paying back to people and animals that are in need. That is why it is necessary for the people that are able to participate do. Not only should people do it because they have to, they should want to. I have learned this personally through my community service experiences. By participating in community service it has allowed me to change as a person and look at life differently. In the beginning I was not enthusiastic about volunteering, but afterwards it made me feel good about myself. There are many benefits of volunteering like, doing helpful things of your interest, interacting with family and friends, and receiving more knowledge about things you didn’t know. There are many aspects of community service that are not blatantly shown.…

In conclusion, schools should not place strong requirements on service because it takes away meaning from volunteering. When students initiate their own service and don’t feel pressured to serve, they have a better experience. Schools should consider rewarding students for service, because it encourages them to participate in the community without pressuring them to only serve for a…

The modern concept of community service as a punishment began in Great Britain in the late 1960s and has become increasingly popular with judges who find they can be more flexible and humane in punishing offenders unlikely to commit another crime. Those guilty of offenses like shoplifting, writing bad checks, possessing small amounts of illegal drugs, or hurling cell phones, are required to work a certain number of hours for the good of the community, usually in a local nonprofit or government facility. (The judges' rule of thumb: Six hours of work equals one day in jail.)...…

Starting freshmen year at an out-of-zone high school, I was already setting new goals for myself. I had to prepare myself for the rigorous academic courses, and manage two science courses every year as a requirement for the Science and Medicine Academy. The academy selects 60 students each year who are interested in pursuing a career in either science or medicine from all over the city. Through the academy I was able to take special science classes that are not available at other schools (Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Medicine, Health, Wellness, and Disease, etc.) along with engaging in job shadowing and internship opportunities. These classes have offered me a better perspective about various science and medicine related topics, issues, and phenomenons.…

Should the United States require all adults to perform one year of community service by the age of 30? I personally think this is a topic that is not at all, relevant. I believe if someone wants to lend a helping hand, then they should lend a helping hand. If you don't prefer to do this kind of community service, the government shouldn't force you to do so. There would be a lot of change in how community service is done today if the government required at least one year to be served by the age of 30.…

Another large issue with moving times back affects the students who work jobs after school. After school jobs could be a main source of income for a family, or just the student. Regardless, the job is crucial. Moving start times back could have the potential to force the student to quit their job in order to make more room for homework, family time, and other after school activities (“Eight Major Obstacles”). If the student has to quit their job, it could be detrimental to them or their family if they rely on the income. Even if the student doesn’t have to quit the job, they may have to cut back on the amount of hours they can work which would still have effects on them (“Eight Major Obstacles”). On the other hand, employers have students work…

Community service assignments can teach students to be on time for a service they are providing for. The place that they are doing the service at may be able to teach them a lesson so that they can use it in the future as experiences they have obtained on the job. You should do the services from your heart and do not give up easily. Besides, although community services are helping people, and gain an understanding about each other and a sense of human compassion. It isn’t something that you should be forced to do, but something you are honored to do. Even though, at times, it may not be the “coolest” thing in the world to be doing, you know you are giving back to someone who is need. To me personally there is not a better feeling in the world than knowing you have helped someone. A few ideas that have come to mind for community service projects are those that are close to home for me. When my Grandma, a quite outgoing and active woman, was in a nursing home, she was bored because the nursing home she resided in lacked activities for the residents to engage in.…

Community service is when someone performs an action which benefits his or her community. However, community work service can be a form of alternative sentencing. The offender is ordered by a court or probation officer to perform community work service as part of a sanction. Through community service, offenders are offered the chance to “give back” to the community by providing a service that enriches the lives of others. “The offenders are placed into unpaid community service positions with non-profit or tax supported community agencies” (Cook county, 2006). The probation officer carefully monitors the offender’s progress by checking with the agency, ensuring that the offenders is regularly reporting to complete the hours, as well as monitoring the offenders ' attitude and quality of work. The probation officer is also responsible for reporting any negative incidents to the court in an effort the hold the offender accountable. Community service is a form of restorative justice, which involves victim, offender, and community. “Criminal justice is asset of institutions and procedures for determining which people deserve to be sanctioned because of their wrongdoing and what kind of sanctions they deserve to receive” (Clear, 2003).…

As I walk to school, I see another wall with graffiti, trash on the streets, and a woman walking around with no sense about her. While Riverside County has some nice areas, there are also unkempt neighborhoods. I believe in Eggers points in Serve or Fail, about some of the possible positive effects of community service. Although he states many views about students stepping up and helping the community, I agree with three possible positive effects.…
