Job Analysis: Assistant Store Managers at Today’s Fashion

Discussion Questions:
1. Critically evaluate the job analysis that Mary conducted for the position of assistant store manager. Has she appropriate methods? What are the strengths and weaknesses of her efforts?

2. What kinds of factors about Today’s Fashion and its operations should Mary have examined more seriously in order to improve her job analysis?

3. Carefully read the job description and job specification that Mary prepared. Do they appear to be thorough? Do you think that they are adequate to serve as a basis for a new selection system? How well do you think these documents will work if Mary is sued for discrimination in her hiring practices? Why?

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Inefficient job analysis. Mary Watson has no formal training in description and specification of job analysis process.

Analysis and evaluation:

Mary had made a good start with her job description, but it still needs to be refined. Because her input was just based on the experiences of her own and interviews with current assistant manager, in which probably has their limitations than in the real world that must be stipulated. There must be a standard in every roles for each one of us in a certain position like in the case as assistant manager.

The method used by Mary is appropriate. However, the weakness of the overall analysis is brought by relying on one method to come up with the analysis. Additionally, relying on experience may be subjective and thus may not actually reflect the task requirements. Nevertheless, there are various strengths of the sales manager efforts. First, during the interviews, the interviewer can effectively describe himself to the people he is interviewing compared to other methods like questionnaires. Proper description of the task requirements will enable the interviewer to come up with proper conclusions regarding the job analysis. Interviews will help the interviewers to
