Implementation
The BCP as written will first be disseminated to the members of the emergency preparedness team for review and acceptance. It will then be presented to the Board of Directors for further discussion, revision, or acceptance. Once the final plan is accepted by the board, it will be issued to the members of upper management in duplicate as stated in the BCP (one to remain secured at the manager’s home and one at the office). The management team will then be tasked with ensuring that the necessary pieces of the BCP be explained to the staff necessary to perform the tasks within the plan. Once all pieces of the plan have been issued to the proper individuals the emergency preparedness team will hold a mandatory meeting to ensure complete buy-in by staff and to explain the finer details while answering any questions individuals may have as to their role in the process.

As stated in the BCP’s body testing of the plan is essential to its success, and it should be viewed as a living document so that changes may be implemented as technology or business needs change. The checklists listed in the BCP are to be used to guide the testing and track which areas need more frequent testing to ensure full functionality. We will start with semi-annual testing of the overall plan and work forward or backward from there as it is deemed prudent via the checklists. Tests will include, but are not limited to, testing of individual components, IT testing, recovery testing, full continuity testing (through scenario drills and walkthroughs), and cascade tests.

This will assist in ensuring the complete saturation of the plan throughout the company, executive management buy-in, proper allocation and understanding of individual and team roles, and needs for alterations due to unforeseen policy or environment changes. Through the use of these measures and the data collected through the checklists and general study we will be able to assure

Internet America is a wireless ISP (WISP) that operates within the southern United States. Currently we have been expanding the use of WiMAX hardware to provide our customer base a better user experience with fewer issues. Our older hardware has become unusable due to the vendor being restricted from sales in the United States so we made the recent decision to utilize WiMAX hardware developed by an Israeli company. This has brought on the added challenge of maintaining the hardware in the event of a Middle East conflict that potentially could choke off supplies of the equipment in the United States. This ongoing conflict has no foreseeable end in sight so the CEO made the decision to negotiate into the contract with the Israeli company to provide us onsite spares for all major hardware to mitigate the chances of service interruptions to our customers in the event of an escalation of events in that region of the world.…

The first step towards creating a serious BCP is to identify the potential disasters one by one and determining what the potential impact might be on your business. In order to generate a professional and sound BCP, you have to understand the degree of the potential loss, which could occur. Some of the factors you could identify are: Financial loss, loss of customer confidence, damage to your reputation, data loss, to name a few. One of the pillars, in which you will build the foundation of your BCP, is to work on your Business Impact Analysis (BIA). The BIA is the understanding of the incidents and the potential impact of each of them when a disaster occurs.…
