Jessica Stam Advertisement Analysis
In this Nina Ricci perfume advertisement we see Canadian model Jessica Stam pictured twice in nearly identical outfits. In this advertisement she is rocking a leather-looking dress, black kitten heals and cat ears to complete the look. Her eye make up is a classic dark smokey eye. Which strengthens the overall aura of “sexiness” that Nina Ricci has successfully conveyed in this ad. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the first depiction of Jessica Stam, where she is dead centre, wrapped in a glossy pink ribbon that connects her to the rest of the images. Her hair is pulled neatly back, but still voluminous on the top. Which draws the attention to her eyes, that are staring at the viewer in a mischievous manner, portraying “bedroom eyes”. She is sporting leather gloves, and most likely leather cat ears as well. She is standing tall, powerful with her hands on her hip showing that she is confident in herself. Showcasing sexiness as something women can be in control of. The other image of Jessica Stam, is her sitting on top of a concrete element, most likely attached to the building that both Jessica’s are at the top of. This advertisement has clearly appropriated the concept and feelings around cat woman and cats in general. Cats are often known as mischievous animals, which is how the model relates to the slogan of the perfume, “discover the new mischievous fragrance”. Cats are also known to play with ribbons which is which a pink ribbon is seen floating through the Paris and around the model. With the word discover in pink font in the slogan, we then relate the pink ribbon to this idea of touring Paris.
