Jazz Concert Report
Concert Report The Wayne Shorter Quarter concert was unlike any concert I have ever been to. The variety of instruments and style of the performers contributed to a unique experience. Not only was the music I heard versatile on several levels, but the behavior of the performers, appearance of the audience, and atmosphere of the venue contributed to my take away from the show. These factors allowed me to obtain a better understanding of jazz as not only an art form, but as a culture. The audience was the first thing I noticed when entering the venue. Most of the attendees were middle-aged and Caucasian. They were dressed in casual but nice clothing. It was not a formal event but no one was wearing tennis shoes are gym clothes. I also noticed that alcohol was being served with light refreshments. This contributed to the relaxed and casual environment that I expected of a jazz concert. I also spoke with a few concert attendees that were closer to my age. They said that they were part of a jazz band and were big Wayne Shorter fans. This showed me that Wayne Shorter’s music has listeners from multiple generations and is still influencing young musicians today. In the actual concert I noticed that the audience did not respond to the performers in any way other than clapping. I expected the audience to be more engaged and not just sit passively. However, they did thoroughly enjoy the performance because they received encore performances. My take away from the audience is that they were older adults who are strong jazz enthusiasts. This did not seem like a concert someone would go to if they did not have a deep knowledge of jazz. The appearance and behavior of the performers contributed to the casual feeling of the concert as well. All the performers were wearing normal day clothes and were not formally introduced. Wayne Shorter had a detailed introduction but the other performers did not. I realized that everyone in the audience probably knew a lot about the other

There were so many stages and people. Lights, music and lots of commotion. The first band we saw was just so amazing and it really was a great start to the day. We danced and sang and had such a great time. I even ran into some childhood friends I had not seen in years. I felt so good that I could be part of this festival and it made me feel good to see people coming together for the music.…

As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. I also saw many people from different age groups; this gave me a feeling that the show would be entertaining enough to get people from all ages to come and see the show. The environment of the theatre was very formal, as there was a red and gold layout and it was also very clean.…

On Sunday May 2, 2004 I attended a jazz concert with some classmates. The program was entitled Jazz at the Stockmarket. We kind of got lost on the way so we only saw the second half of the show. The Sacramento based musicians were Jim Malone on keyboard, Steve Krohn who played both the guitar and keyboard, Rich Defazio an amazing drummer. That night the band was featuring Ken Stout who is an incredible tenor saxophone player, and also a guest appearance vocalist by the name of Debbie Defazio. There was also a tremendous bass player but his name was not on the program. There was a count off and the music began with a jam-packed house. The first song was called Equinox by John Coltrane. I know I have heard this piece played before at one time or another. When the band played it they added a little taste of their own to it. The song was unique. Ken Stout played two remarkable solos; one in the beginning and on at the end. The Bass player was just fantastic; he flowed with everyone flawlessly in the first piece. The next two bits were written by Steve Krohn, which he dedicated to his three-year-old daughter. One was called Nicole's song. This part of a set was very diverse it included mixes of Christmas and cartoon songs, which blended together perfectly. The song started with a guitar then the saxophone and drums meshed in together. I really enjoyed this piece since it reminded me of the old cartoons I used to watch plus it just made you feel happy inside. I looked around and everybody in the building had a fat smile on his or her face. The next song was entitled Pleasing the Queen. It began with the drummer snapping on the symbols. This song was awesome because there was a total of six solos in the piece. There was some real talent in the band you could feel it in the air.…

The UF Jazz Band Concert was an energetic, exciting and very entertaining. The University Auditorium provided a great atmosphere and vibe for the concert. From the start of the concert, it was very obvious how passionate all of the musicians and the director were about their performances. The band consists of five saxophone players, four trumpet players, five trombone players, and a rhythm section with guitar, piano, drums, and bass players. On saxophone were John Milado, Dustin Ferguson, Ben Greer, Monica Bello and Gregory Snider. On the trumpets were Sean Bokinsky, Mark Kindy, Anthony Bobo and Bobby Polidan. Playing the trombones were Kevin Hicks, Nick Arnheim, Brandon Allen, Adren Hance, Corbin Robeck and Mark Doerffel. In the rhythm section, Harrison Barron played guitar. Lincoln Antonio, Mitchell Morlock and Jason Bontrager played piano. Benny Cannon, Ethan Harman and Jonathon Foster played drums. Keegan Musser and Nate Garland played bass. I went to Mr. O’Neal’s second jazz concert today, which took place at a little bit far but very nice jazz studio in San Pedro. There was a beautiful neighborhood nearby, and it was the first time I’ve ever been to San Pedro. I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started, it was a warm and sweet little room. Then I looked at the little stage in front where Mr. O’Neal’s going to perform later, it was just fit to everything. I like the design of the stage: they had colorful lighting on five separate pieces pure white background , a new classic piano, a bright blue jazz drum which I like the best, and a set of red African drum, they really made me look forward to the show. My friend also ordered the pizza the Mr. O’Neal recommended, and we were ready to enjoy the concert!…

Before taking Jazz class I barely knew anything about this type music. Six different bands performed fifteen pieces. Most of the pieces are written by popular Jazz composers, such as “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock or “Donna Lee” by Charlie Parker. Also, there was one band that performed pieces written by its members, which really impressed me. For example, “Preparation” was composed by Alex Reiff, who plays bass in the band called Krista White 3 PM Combo. In this report I would like to pay attention on two pieces that I enjoyed the most.…

At this event, I saw how people including students, parents, faculty, and friends came together from a tired day to listen to smooth classical music. Music has such a mighty effect on people because it is a universal language. People all over the world listen to music, from pop to folk, and enjoy it. Classical music has a way of permeating the heart and relaxing a stressed mind. For example, at the event, one of the pieces the band performed was Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma. Their performance of this piece demonstrated the culture and lifestyle of French music during the 1900s. As the wind ensemble played this piece, the atmosphere in the room shifted because of the lively tone the piece had. People began clapping and moving along to the tempo of the song and joy entered the entire lobby. Music not only relaxes a person, but it alters their mood as well. I was so stunned to see how one piece of jazz music could create a change in so many people in an…

This concert was a bit less formal than any of the others. The choir members still wore their usual formal garments, whilst carrying sheet music in the recognizable black folders. The thing that stood out most was the allowance of the audience to join the choirs onstage and stand in their seats to be a part of the choirs angelic sound for just a few moments.…

    Salsa Jazz Concert Report

It’s not really the type of concert I would have typically gone to for fun but I did enjoy myself. I think the fact that it was salsa made it more interesting since I am Hispanic. I caught myself bobbing my head to the rhythm, clapping my hands, and tapping my foot in some of the performances. One of my friends was in the concert so it was nice to see him play on the drums and how he had a solo. Also another guy from my jazz class was in the concert and he played very well and it was riveting to see the way he played his solo on the sax. I don’t know if I would ever go to another jazz concert for fun but who knows maybe I would if it was a salsa one. I am glad that I got to go and see this because I probably would not have experienced this if it wasn’t because I had to. It did open up my eyes more to the world of jazz and seeing how different it is to see them playing live than from a computer or just listening to the songs. To see it all happening was fascinating. I would tell anyone that they should go some time in their life to a jazz concert, specifically a salsa one. If I out of everyone enjoyed it than anyone…

For my concert review, I went to see the performance of Maynard Ferguson and his big band at Jazz Alley on Jan. 12th 2005. I asked some of my friends to join and they gladly agreed. Since two of my friends were a musician themselves and loved seeing live music whenever possible. They even went ahead and made a reservation. First time in Jazz Alley, the place was filled with various groups of people eating, drinking, and chatting. Our table was in good position, plus I was able to see the stage very well. We ordered some cocktails and everyone looked relaxed and enjoying their evening… except me, as I was worrying about writing a paper. I started to write the names of the players and the instruments they play; getting ready to take some notes. But since when they started to play, I only wrote the names of the songs; cause my self was already busy enjoying the concert too.…

The name of the concert that I attended was called “TCU Jazz Combos” and featured a variety of jazz compositions. This concert took place in the Pepsico Recital Hall on November 14, 2012 at 7:00 in the evening. The event was casual; however, I chose to wear khaki pants and a button down shirt because I was not certain as to what the dress code would be. The performers’ names and their respective instruments were Mike Korson- Saxophone, Garrett Wingfield- Saxophone, Luke Wingfield- Trumpet, Alex Neal- Guitar, Edo Frenkel- Piano, Will Gilstrap- Bass, Russell Wharton- Drums, and Tanner Webb- Trombone. During the concert they played various jazz compositions written by some of the very performers themselves. Several other pieces were more well known jazz compositions from internationally recognized artists. The concert itself was not very crowded, with pockets of individuals scattered throughout the audience. There was definitely interaction between the performers and the audience. I found this aspect of the jazz concert to be unique to other concerts. Jazz concerts are significantly less formal than classical orchestra concerts or even piano concerts in which applause is saved for the very end. In jazz concerts, after a solo it is considered appropriate to applaud, even during the middle of a piece. Having never attended a jazz concert before, I found this to be a wonderful learning experience.…

There is definitely a difference between seeing a live performance and listening to it on the radio or on a compact disc. Listening to live music is definitely a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night. I went to a jazz concert at the Bluebird. It was a beautiful experience. I thought it was a throw back to the days where television was in black and white. It was a very intimate setting between the band and the audience.…
