James Scobie
James Scobie
In Michael Gerard Bauer’s novel Don’t Call Me Ishmael we see James Scobie as a smart, strong and fearless. We first see James Scobie in Part 2 Chapter 11. We first see James in class as the new kid. James is goofy looking, strange and nerdy, but we soon find out he is much more than he appears to be. I will be talking about James and how he is a good friend, teammate and student. James Scobie is one of the best students in St Daniels. James gets good marks for every class and is the captain of the debating team. The debating team is made up of James Scobie, Bill Kingsley, Orazio Zorzotto, Ishmael Leseur and Prindabel. These guys have been winning debates after debates mostly because of James. James kept encouraging the team with his goofy looking face and never doubted the team once. James never showed fear when coming to a debate. He always showed courage and faced his challenges head on. We know why James cannot sense fear because he had a brain tumour and had surgery to remove the tumour. According to James he thinks that there is a certain amount of fear a single person can have and he has used up all of his fear. Right now James is at Sydney undergoing tests to see if the brain tumour hasn’t come back. This will not stop James Scobie from being the smartest, most courageous and the most encouraging person we see in this book. One of the best friends you could have is James Scobie. James and Ishmael were both getting picked on by Barry Bagsley the high school bully. Barry was calling James and Ishmael names and threw papers at James. James stood up to Barry and embarrassed him in front of the whole class. Even when James’ face was directly in front of Barry’s he didn’t back down. James always had something to say to Barry when he spoke or when he counted down from 5 and said “If you don’t move i’ll punch you in the face.” But James always came back with something. James stuck up for Ishmael even though Ishmael thought he was going

One strives to find an individual to be able to connect on an intellectual and emotional level. The prime definition of a friend, defined by Google is, “a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection.” Despite there being a concrete definition, friendship has no terminology because everyone’s view on it is distinct and miscellaneous. The pure definition of friendship is defined on one’s own notion. In The Things They Carried, Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon had a bona fide friendship that was equivalent to no other friendship. Mark Fossie and Mary Anne Bell also had a friendship that was beyond than just a friendship. Both relationships were so complementary but yet contradicted each other sufficiently.…

One essential expectation for the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester is having outstanding faculty and administration, as they put a lot of effort into ensuring that the faculty at the school is what fits their standards. One character from my novel, Legend by Marie Lu, who could be identified as a best friend is Day, otherwise known as Daniel. One reason why Day could be considered a best friend is because although he is tough and independent, he is also kind and considerate. The author writes, “A part of me recalls the way he saved me from the skiz fight, that he helped me heal the burning wound in my side, that his hands had been so gentle.” (Lu, 148). In this quote the author explains how Day saved June when she was escaping from a skiz fight. This proves that Day could be a best friend because although he is a criminal, he still saved a stranger, showing that he is kind.…

Friendship is a very important bond shared by two friends that cannot be described by mere words. In the fictional narrative The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton shows us the importance of friendship through the hardships of the two protagonists, Johnny and Ponyboy. They use their friendship to overcome many obstacles throughout their story. One example of friendship can be found in the movie “Toy Story,” in which the main protagonists, Woody and Buzz, must find their way back home while at the same time gain each other’s trust and friendship. Friends will always support your side in an argument, they look out for you, and comfort you when you are in need.…

Over the years that I’ve been at Burdick, I’ve gained many great friends, but I also lost a few. Only a few selective of them, I tell my secrets to. For example, Kaiden, Coreena, Dakota, Elysium, Joelle, Jose, and Isaiah. They’re the greatest friends anyone could ask for and have. They’re loyal, truthful, understanding, funny, witty, sarcastic, and just plain awesome. I have them to thank for making ordinary moments, extraordinary. They’re always there when I want to hang out or vent out my feelings. They put in that extra effort to understand me for who I am, not caring the slightest bit about my flaws and imperfections. And if I ever need to shed some tears, I know that at least one of them will be there to comfort me. There are times where…

for a friend either a good or bad one. I think we can all relate that having a friend that can be good and bad to you at moments, but we still hang out with them because as humans the thought of a friend brings us joy. In a book, “Of Mice And Men” the two main characters, George and Lennie, had this unique friendship where George was mean at times but then he was nice. Like the sour patch commercials, first they’re sour then they’re sweet, that’s George towards Lennie. Throughout the novella, I conceive that George was a good friend to Lennie, but they did have their rough patches. No matter what they were there for each other and the novella shows a…
