Issues vs Personalities
Issues VS Personalities: One recent situation from my life that I feel is a good example of this was a business dealing between my boss and a company we sub-contract for. The issue was that we had done about a million dollars worth of work for them but they hadn’t pain my boss for the work. My boss, with his strong personality, stopped all work until they could come to a payment agreement.
The owners of the other company had the same type of personality as my boss so the payment arrangement wasn’t an easy thing to agree upon between the two parties. Once the two came to realize that it was in the best interest of both the parties, an agreement was made and the payment issues were cleared.
Interests VS Positions: Again, the same situation from above would pertain to this as well. The interest of my boss was getting the money that was owed to him. The interest of the contractor we were doing work for was continuing the work without coming to a repayment agreement first. Once the discussions started, they both soon realized that if they came to an agreement, both of their interests could be served. If they did not, they would both lose the contract and it wouldn’t matter what each of their positions on the matter were.
Options VS Proposals: Pertaining to the above situation, the options of my boss were to either pay him his money or he was shutting the job down until that happened. After hearing my boss’s options, the contractor came to him with different proposals to try to reach an agreement so the work could continue. In my eyes, proposals are a type of result to options.
Standards VS Power: In this situation, the standard my boss was basing his issue on was mutual gain, legal requirements, practice and professional standards. With these standards behind him he ended up holding the majority of the power in the meetings that were had between the two

Conflict is important, and it is also important to recognize the different types of conflicts that you may be involved with. By knowing this, you can recognize the state of mind you’re in and if possible avoid it. Pseudo conflicts are one of the five different types. These are not real conflicts; they are only perceived as conflicts. Pseudo conflicts can result from two causes: faulty assumptions and false dilemmas. Mistaking assumptions for facts may explain many pseudo conflicts. Pseudo conflicts that result from false dilemmas occur when the parties involved see only two choices as solutions to the problem. Another is Fact conflicts; this kind of conflicts happen when individuals disagree about information that could easily be verified whether by statics or some other resource. Ego conflicts occur when a dispute centers on status or power; this reminds of two of my cousins when they let their egos get in the way of them winning their athletic competitions. Even though it was obvious that Angel was more of an athletic guy than Joe, he always felt like he had something to prove. Instead of them continuing to be on the same time for these competitions, Joe felt as though he had to show Angel that he was able to do everything better than him as well as get the most girls phone numbers. This kind of ego conflict they had affected their ability to continue to work together. Value conflicts focus on personal beliefs that you hold near and dear and is one that is very important to me, because at a previous job another assistant manager decided that he wasn’t going to ask all the employees their availability on the weekends. He felt that it was okay for him to ask just the ones he…

Personality clashes: This can happen when someone has a perception about somebody else’s motives or character. An example of this in my workplace would be when one of my supervisors jumps on and challenges one of the operators for making minor mistakes because he/she perceives that the operator is lazy and not capable to do the job. The operator feels that the supervisor is out to get him as he is not one of the better / more capable operators.…

Ken Wolfe's Personalities and Problems is a good book that goes into depth about many important figures in history. Each personality that is discussed has played a vital role in how the world has come to be and how it is run; politically, religiously, and even as far as explorations and trade is concerned. Wolfe depicts each personality very well and gives great examples of what each personality has accomplished in his/her lifetime. Each chapter is broken down into groups of two people which have certain similarities or specific differences that link the two together. For example, in his preface, Wolfe states that he grouped Hammurabi and Mahivara together because their actions reflected the dominant values of their society. Each chapter or essay begins with a series of questions that Wolfe answers about the society or personality at hand. His work is laid out very well and concisely.…

Communication is very important, it helps us to build relationships with others and people can express their feelings by communication. Nevertheless, how can people communicate with opposite personality types? Here are some tips for ESTJ, which is what I am. As an extravert, I should respect introverts’ privacy and don’t ask them embarrassing questions because introverts generally have a greater need for privacy(Falikowski,86). Also, I should “take time to listen to them because introverts tend to be less spontaneous than extraverts and they need time to reflect before acting or responding.”(Falikowski, 86) Secondly, as a sensor, I should not “overgeneralize or state absolutes with intuitives because personal experience may give me confidence in their opinions and conclusions, but it does not guarantee necessary truth.”(Falikowski, 89) I also should “find new ways of expressing information to interact with intuitive personality types because they appreciate novelty, and unusual modes of expression and challenges.”(Falikowski, 89) Thirdly, as a thinker, I should “be more appreciative of others’ comments because thinking-type people are likely to consider their rationality and objectivity as virtues, and in many ways they are.”(Falikowski, 93) And I should “expand my communication messages because a terse manner of expression is sometimes perceived as unfriendly and cold.”(Falikowski, 93) Fourthly, as a judger, I should “open up to the unexpected because some interruptions may even provide me with information and insights that can be used to reconsider my plans.”(Falikowski, 97) Also, I should “build flexibility into my lifestyle because being psychologically prepared can help to reduce stress and frustration.”(Falikowski, 97) Frustrated people are not usually pleasant to communicate with. After I read Chapter 2 and 3, I learned many methods to interact with different types of people and I know how to build good relationships with…

The case “The new boss” (Daft, 2011) describes a situation within a large medical products company where employees share a different mental model from their boss. The company, Century Medical had multiple information systems projects developed by the chief information officer Sam Nolan. His projects were aimed to save time and money for the company. The projects were further designed to support team based work, improved purchasing processes and give employees of Century Medical more control over their respective jobs. Initially the projects were supported by the Human Resource team of the company and the executive vice president Sandra Ivey. As the executive vice president resigned from her position, an individual by the name of Tom Carr took her position. The new executive VP did not share the same opinion of other employees when it came to supporting the newly developed information systems projects. Carr saw the projects as a waste of time and money for the company. During his first meeting on information systems, Carr disapproved several new features suggested by the company’s internal recruiters, even though the project team argued that the features could double internal hiring and save money (Daft, 2011).…

In today’s world, everyone is talking about good health, they say want to live long and die old but do they know how to take care of their health? The definition of health is “a state of complete physical, social and mental well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (Definition of Wellness, n.d., p. 1). There are a lot of factors that can influence the health, one of them are personality. Personality is the quality of being a person, existence as a self- conscious human being. In psychology term personality is defined as the organized pattern of behavioral characteristics of the individual. Research shows that emotional are linked to health. Even in Chinese medicine, they believe that emotion have impact on an individual’s health. Personality can influence one’s health, making the individual to have cancer or illness. It also said that personality can make an illness better or worse. There are few type of personality, the first one is the extraversion and introversion plus one more that been recently found is the “ambiversion”. Extraversion are individuals who like to socialize with people, they are people who like to mixed around and dislike being alone. Due to having this personality they are able to mix with people around them in a short period of time. On the other hand is the introversion, it is the exact opposite of extraversion. The individuals are very quiet and less sociable, but they are not people who likes being alone or shy, they just like being with a smaller groups of people. These two are the extreme cases, ambiversion is located in the middle of the two types. Ambiversion individuals are people who can mix with crowds and still like the time being alone. They are considered the balance between extroversion and introversion.…
