Timm and Sanborn introduce the idea of transforming family structure and gender roles through industrialization. Less earned-wage made women relying on men’s support (Timm and Sanborn 65). However, in bourgeois society, women of leisure in another way became an indication of separating middle-class and working class (Timm and Sanborn, 75). The authors then discuss the development of urbanization creating a space for gathering of homosexuals, thus sexual sins attracted scholars’ attentions.…
The female characters of the novel are really searching for their freedom in sexual matter by violating the patriarchal norms and values toward sex in the black community Bottom. So Jerkily Fisher writes:…
4. There is a close connection between family members and sex which seen through the relationship of Rhea and Bassam and can also be seen through Nabila and Bassam’s relationship. Rhea helps provide for Bassam during his time in Paris and Bassam feels the need to protect her just as her brother would have. It seems like the author draws attention to the sexual tension between the two as a way to normalize their otherwise strange relationship…
Junot Díaz expresses his feelings through his literary work, This is How You Lose Her. The reactions through the female characters he has describe in his life (fragment finish your thought. The reactions of who? In his life what?). Nilda is a promiscuous girl who was the main character’s brother’s girlfriend who represents a part of the main character’s life. Nilda represents how both men and women can be on the same level of equality. Nilda is part of the main character’s life by viewing how the relationship process flows. The relationship goes from infidelity to being dumped and then abjectly begging forgiveness. The main character experiences many feelings through the relationships that he has gone through. Watching the process unfold help the main character noticed many flaws what both men and women have to deal with. Men and women have many different pleasures and happiness to keep them satisfied in their lives. Without these series of pleasures, individuals cannot enjoy themselves with their happiness. The general stereotype is women being inferior, weak, and fragile; however, in today’s world, represented by this literary work, women can be strong and superior. Both men and women can be the same level in Western (I’m assuming the story took place in the western hemisphere? Correct me if I am wrong. However, “society” is a vague word and you would need to specify which society. Western? Eastern? Caribbean?) society.…

Social groups are often marginalized or misrepresented in various pieces of literature. In Albert Camus’s novel The Outsider, there are a variety of social groups that are portrayed in a negative light, but the most prominent is the female population. Throughout the book, many women are disregarded, or are seen as unimportant. From Marie to Meursault’s mother to Raymonds mistress, each woman is portrayed as destitute and desperate for love. Thus, Camus uses the character of Meursault to present women as shallow and naive to the audience. Camus portraying women this way, adds to the theme of the novel that these values of love and attachment that women posses are all absurd.…
The moral argument must be addressed before an examination of the effects of pornography usage. Pornography usage cannot be rightly argued as morally bad/evil. For an action to be classified as morally evil, there must be proven, an initiation of force. By this definition, it is easy to see why one cannot paint all pornography, everywhere with the same broad brush. A mutually consenting adult couple filming their private acts and distributing them can scarcely be lumped into the same category as child pornography. Even if we look at the usage of morally neutral pornography, can we equate somebody consuming it once a week to someone consuming it once a day?…
In the satire of the sexes, Egalia’s Daughters by Gerd Brantenberg, there is put forth a society different from which has ever been present in modern times. This would be a society where women were at the forefront and did the decision making, worked and held governmental positions. The men were portrayed in the way females live in present society, though it was often exaggerated to make that point. Men were dominated and ruled by women and had to do their bidding and cook for them and take care of the children, so on and so forth. By taking a hard look at how sexuality is imagined and experienced on all analytical levels and picking apart the social construction of gender in Egalia’s Daughters, society itself in the present can start to be unraveled as well. What is found in this book can transfer over to a point and parallel itself with present experiences of women and their struggle for equality, recognition and acknowledgement.…
They may not entirely stop someone from engaging in sexual behavior or expressing themselves sexually, but for many people it could affect the way they view themselves or the way they think others view them. I also believe religious views can affect someone’s conscience in a negative way based off their desires, but in some ways it could be beneficial. For example it could be the one thing that keeps someone from cheating. Now I know this doesn’t apply to everyone nor should it be the sole reasoning behind someone not committing adultery, but it could have a huge impact on their ultimate…

The novel The Wars by Timothy Findley whom is a well recognized Canadian author demonstrates the convention of sexuality when Robert Ross, a Canadian solider questions his sexuality. During the 1900s people fell into gender roles and social norms. Homosexuality throughout the 1900s was a very controversial topic. Robert Ross came from an exceptionally religious Christian family. Christian’s do not believe in homosexuality but see it as horrendous: “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” The Wars by Timothy Findley analyzed through the lens of existentialism of queer theory, limits and fixes identities through the categorizations of gender, sexuality, and heteronormativity. Robert Ross is shown disobeying social norms numerous times: having feelings for a fellow soldier, seeing two soldiers having sexual intercourse, and experiencing sexual intercourse with Barbara d’Orsey.…
The first thing that caught my attention was the view on sex. In our world today, we like to think that we should stay “pure” until we get married to the one we love. However, in this day and age that is not the case- people do engage in premarital sex. In this movie there is a motto “promiscuity is a citizen’s duty”. Meaning go out and sleep with anyone you would like, it’s okay, because it’s pleasurable. In their minds anything that is pleasurable is good. Today being promiscuous is not socially acceptable- we are preached to in school to only engage in monogamous relationships. We refer to people who are doing as “easy” or “slutty”. However, in “Brave New World” sex is pretty much a hobby. Citizens in this new world question Lenina, because she tends to sleep with only one man in the movie, Bernard. And in this new world that is not socially expected, because people do not fall in love in this new world.…
