Chapter 1: Introduction a. Background of study
The group decided to select this project because the group wanted to make something that ink would be the result. The group decided to use an avocado seed because according to research, avocado seeds contain 13% tannin, which is responsible for the reddish appearance of the avocado seed when exposed to air. The group also decided to make ink out of organic materials so as to not use chemical substances that produce ink. Since in the modern times chemically made ink is used in writing, which can be harmful to nature.

The group found out that this process is first discovered by the Spaniards when they were in the Philippines. They found out that avocado seeds contain tannin which produces ink when cut, and exposed to air. The avocado seed secretes a milky fluid which acts as the ink when exposed to air. We also found out that a simple cut in the seed will not produce the ink, but we need to really dissect the seed in order for the ink to release.

This will contribute well on the modern days because instead of using chemically made ink, we can use organic material instead. And since we usually throw avocado seeds when we eat avocado, we can eventually find something useful in avocado seeds. All we need to do is to follow simple steps that could save and preserve nature. This way, we could help save nature and the Earth as well.

b. Significance of Study
There would be an alternative that would be parallel to the ink that is commonly used today. The study will be able to

Chromatography is a term used to define a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures. Through Chromatography we analyzed complex mixtures. In our recent lab we analyzed complex mixtures. The purpose of this lab was to find whether the water soluble or acetone soluble liquid traveled farther. In our recent lab we measured the distance traveled by the different colored water and acetone soluble inks. W put three dots of water soluble ink on a piece of filter paper and four dots of acetone soluble ink at the other end. We then put the end of the filter paper in a small amount of distilled water in a beaker. The filter paper absorbed the water and the ink slowly spread to the top of the paper. We repeated these steps for both the water soluble and acetone soluble ink but when we did the acetone soluble ink, we placed the filter paper in an acetone-water mixture instead of just distilled water. We then recorded our results which showed that water soluble inks traveled farther than the acetone soluble inks. The results of our experiment showed how each different color of water soluble inks traveled farther than any of the acetone soluble inks.…

In the late 1970s, rediscovered color and over time developed and transformed the idea of color into his own style. He began using colored dots of different sizes and unique combinations. Close uses three colors (red, blue, and yellow) he created countless other colors. This method is similar to Pointillism which the concept is to create a solid space using dots of two or more colors in an area. These colored dots mix from a distance creating a new color. “Color isn't just there in the tube for Close; you make it on the canvas. And color isn't something you plan in your head and then try to copy; you find color, through the painting process itself.” Close began to experiment with color and a variety of different media’s and techniques. One of these techniques involved the printing process. Close would use only cyan, magenta, and yellow and apply one layer at a time over the canvas. Another innovative technique was his fingerprint series. Close would ink his thumb and forefinger and press them to the canvas to create a varied range of grays. Viewed up close, the whorled patterns of his fingerprints can easily be seen; from a distance the method is unrecognizable, and the fingerprints merge to generate an illusionistic…

This new technology led to the artists to begin to mass-produce their works. Before the work could be mass-produced the block of wood had been formed into the image. This was done by “[t]he artist’s design is either drawn directly on the block or on a sheet of paper which was glued to its surface. The cutter uses a knife similar to a penknife and carefully cuts away all the wood away from the sides of the lines which the artist has drawn.” After the wood was brought to the desired image/design the artist would season the wood to ensure that the block would not crack or warp. With this block the artist could then begin to produce prints. Prints could be produced cheaply and efficiently lowering the cost of what art used to cost for an original. The main reason for the reduced cost was the reduced the amount of time spent by the artist to produce the work. The artist could carve one block and transfer that image onto potentially thousands of mediums. With the creation of the concept of prints the middle class could begin to enjoy art a luxury that had been reserved only for the wealthy. With the emergence of a larger demographic of consumers’ artists began to produce more works propelling the industry…
