I believe that cultures are equally good and while the may vary greatly in certain beliefs, many cultures are also similar. For example, many cultures around the world have some type of “coming of age” ceremony. The ceremonies may be vastly different, but the purpose is essentially the same across the different cultures.…
Hypothesis: When obesity and poverty rates are tested to see which is more correlated with life expectancy I would expect poverty to be more correlated and for it to be a negative correlation as well. I say this because obesity is in a way a subcategory of poverty. For example, people who are poorer tend to buy the less healthy foods because they are at a cheaper price, thusly causing obesity.…
The different cultures and lifestyles that surround us are the major factors that affect and influence behavior in all societies. Culture is the way we are brought up and the beliefs, values and attitudes that are instilled in us by our parents and or guardians. Society also instills culture in us and how we are educated and trained throughout life. We are trained in school and within our homes; we are taught different lifestyles through whom we interact with and the environment in which we grow up in and the conditions and situations we are used to.…
After taking the Life Factors assessment, I learned that I need to be more concerned about my future academic commitment and that my reason for going back to school may be a concern. I guess it’s because I get discouraged at times. Sometimes, I sit and think of the reasons why I’m in school and how it will benefit me. I don’t want to be one of those people with two degrees, and no job, that’s scary to me. Having ample time, having a place to study, and having a solid level of resources and support were all strengths of mine. My strengths are very important when it comes to me being in school, especially an online school. It wouldn’t be easy for me to concentrate and finish my assignments without having a place that I can study without interruptions or having the necessary resources that I need to excel in my course. The support from friends and family is another strength that I feel I need to continue my education. The motivation and extra push is what keeps me going. I think reason is the life factor that I need to focus on the most. I guess I’m one of those people who believe that you can success depends on your work ethic and how much you want it rather than your education because coming from where I’m from, the most successful people are the ones who don’t have a degree. I try to be realistic because I know that in this day and time, a degree is much needed but when people ask me why I need a degree, I’m speechless. I think my reason for getting a degree is because it looks good and I’m afraid that I’ll regret it if I don’t finish. I will change my behavior by figuring out just why I want my education and focusing on the goal that I want to set. Procrastination and time management are the personality factors that I will work most to strengthen because doing things at the last minute and rushing through it is a big problem for me. It’s easier for me to work under pressure but time isn’t always on my side so I think that learning to work at a decent pace will…
A culture that I could identify with would be the family closeness. The reason that I could identify with the family closeness is because in my family no matter what happens family comes first. For every holiday, birthday, or celebration it is tradition that my family will be there for me. In any big decision they will help me make it and choose the right path for my future. We believe that if anyone is ever in need of assistance we will be there to help them. Another culture that I am a part of would be that the husband/ father is the bread winner. The husband is expected to make the most money so he can provide for his family. He is the person that makes all of the important final decisions and protects his wife and kids from harm. Other countries have a sort of identical type of culture. For example the Mexican culture, they are centered around family. They feel it is their place to help and be responsible for family members. The Mexican culture can also identify with the fact that the…

Choose one of those 5 to research further and find out why there is either a high or low life expectancy in that country. Life is a beautiful thing, but everyone gives life a certain value for each person they meet. Some people are too important to put value on, depending on the perspective of the appraiser, others can be priced quite easily by someone else and be difficult to by another. Based on the readings given to work with contradicting one another, someone cannot wholeheartedly agree with all of the passages. People put dollar value on life and in some places it is deemed as bad to do so but it is the only way we can value things. The idea of paying more or less for sickly people or ones who had suffered is alright because it is a way to judge the weight of the situation and the money needed to repay that.…
Culture plays a huge part in our lives and has made a set of ‘rules’ that most of us follow. However, I don’t believe these rules are the best, as most of them are centered on one’s self. I have learned from ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ that if the culture does not suit you, just move on. Live the way YOU want and the way that makes you happy because at the end of the day you’ll be more satisfied with life and a happier person.…

Now that I’ve grown to be my own person with a family of my own, I do not follow that exact same routine as my mom does. Somehow I was raised to be treated as equal partners in a relationship and to help each other out. Within my generation, our culture is different than what my parents are accustomed to. Our book defined culture as “Culture is a set of human-made objective elements that in the past have increased the probability of survival and resulted in satisfaction for the…
