Invention Of Baseball
Many of us have probably heard about how Abner Doubleday invented the game of baseball. How he became a Civil War hero while baseball was growing in America. But sadly, this is not true at all. Doubleday was still involved in the war in West Point, and claimed he had nothing to do with the invention of baseball. The story was told around by a former major league player Aj Spalding claiming he got the story from Abner Graves, a mining engineer. Later on major league officials talk and rely on the myth and then put it in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The actual truth about where baseball came from dates by to the 18th century. Baseball was made up of two different games, rounders and cricket. The game of rounders came from as kids game in New England. …show more content…
The National Association of Professional Baseball Players started in 1871 through 1875. Some people consider this to be the first major league. The National League that we see today was established in 1876 after the National Association proved ineffective. The league was now focused on the “club” rather than the “players”. Clubs were able to do contracts with players, preventing players to jump around to higher paying clubs. Clubs had to play all the schedule games and they had to stop gambling on what team was going to win, because doubt was being put on the players. Many of us have heard that Jackie Robinson was the first African-American. Jackie was the first after a long gap. There was a number of African-Americans that were dropped from the league along with Indians and south and central Americans. Jackie and Larry were the start of the non-colored bar, or also known as the Gentlemen's Agreement. As the National League was having trouble with threats and rebels. The American Association was doing great, or also known as the “beer and whiskey league”. After several years of making leagues, they came down to two leagues, the Nationals and the American.
