Interview with a Human Services Worker
Interview with a Human Services Worker

I chose to interview my mother. Her name is Barbara Lee and she works for the Riverside County Office of Education. She is an infant teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. She has been working in her position for about 30 years and she still loves it!

The human problems she works with are working with hearing impaired children and their families. There are both parent-child classroom settings and in-home settings. Some of the technologies used are hearing aids and auditory trainers. An auditory trainer is an electronic device that allow a person to focus attention on a speaker and reduce the interference of back round noise. I believe the model my mom’s position would exemplify would be Human Services, since she does teaching and parent support.

A person involved with the agency by newborn hearing screenings, which refers newborn babies that have not passed his or her audiological screenings. Another way to be involved is by parent referral through Regional Center or other referrals from other infant programs. The rewarding part of Leslie’s job is that she can increase parent child communication, bonding, understanding and, overall developmental growth. She is also involved in making sure the child is placed in the appropriate program after the child turns 3.

If Barbarba had the option to make a change in the program it would be to add a second class during the week. At the present time, there is only one class a week. The second class would be added after the child turned 2. Overall, she would like to provide more services for the children, but there unfortunately is not enough funding.

The initial reason my mother started to work in the human services profession was because she felt there were not enough people that represented the deaf and hard of hearing. The college my mother went to which was Lewis and Clark University in Oregon had a well-known program for training teachers of the deaf. After

Mrs. Roberson is a medical lab technician and a phlebotomist for a few years at Vidant Bertie. The reason why I have chosen Mrs.Twil Roberson is being that she was more than willing to help, full of energy, and have plenty of knowledge behind her field of chosen. Also, since there are not many African American in her field, therefore, she is one of the older African American women that became a part of the laboratory and the medical department.…

The partner I chose to interview was Caitlin Hanning. On Tuesday, the first day of school, we happened to sit by each other and out of laziness we chose to just interview each other instead of finding someone across the room. I found out through the interview it was both of our first year at BPCC, and we had similar majors, although while she is majoring in OT I am majoring in OTA. I also found out that her nickname is "Granny", which is hilarious to me. Why someone thought she deserved that nickname is a mystery to me, but it’s certainly unique.…

I conducted an in person interview at Deaconess Cross Pointe, 7200 East Indiana Street; Evansville, Indiana 47715. I interviewed Natalie Goffinett, who has achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work, and counsel’s children and families at that facility. When setting the appointment to interview Ms. Goffinett, I offered her the option to conduct the interview either in person or over the telephone. Ms. Goffinett and I agreed that an in person interview would be best if I wanted to have the opportunity to tour the facilities, as well as develop a sense for inpatient and outpatient environments. Deaconess Cross Pointe is a state licensed facility offering a full range of mental health services and psychiatric care which can meet the emotional and behavioral health care need of children, teen, adults, and their families. This facility meets, and exceeds my career goals and objectives; I would definitely consider working with this agency, as well as recommending others in need of the services that this facility provides.…

I believe that working for a religious based organization should allow a human services worker to learn that it is ok to work and serve people with different religious beliefs and the ultimate goal should be the clients well-being not his/her conversion. In my opinion, the role of a human service is to help clients in any possible way and this service should not be compromised by forcing or getting religion involved.…

Arc of the Ozarks is a local human service organization providing help to people in the local communities with physical and mental disabilities. The main local offices for the Arc can be found in Springfield, Joplin, and Monett, Missouri. Interviewing someone from the Arc could have been done over the phone, by e-mail, and an in-person interview. The in-person interview seemed to be more appropriate because it would allow me to interact with the people who work for the organization and possibly see interaction with clients. Interviewing one in person also helps to show the kind of dedication put into the work provided by the organization.…

The position of a human service worker is to help those in need. Therefore, a human service worker must be able to handle themselves, and help those in need during a time of crisis. A human service worker must work in situations that may seem unsafe, such as during a crisis situation with a client, during a domestic violence intervention, counsel those who abuse their spouses and/or child, as in the Bible The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence Psalm 11:5 (KJV) . The human service worker must be able to remain calm throughout difficult situations. Compassion and empathy all the most important aspects that a human service worker can have, when a woman of domestic violence leaves hers spouse, or intimate partner, the usual amount of times they return to the abusive relationship is between eight and eleven. At this we are told by God and the Bible to be a compassionate person to all those in need as in Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our…

Every day people are faced with dilemmas within their work place. Some of those dilemmas are minor while others are major and go against the ethics that people have. Some of them not only go against one’s personal ethics, but work ethics as well. Some are able to look past these dilemmas and continue on while others can’t and feel the needs to confront the person or person’s that are involved. One has to remember that their values maybe different than others and that is more so true within the work place than anywhere else’s. The work place is full off different people from different back grounds and all of these people are put together and somehow expected to work together in harmony. “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest” (Quotes About Ethics, 2012).…
