Business and Ethical Issues
After reading the requirement for this interview paper, I asked some friends to see if experience ethic issues have at their workplace. Unfortunately, most of them are working part-time as student assistants for San Jose State University, and therefore do not deal with ethics issue. While continuing to find the right person to interview, I received a call from my old community college classmate, Vivian Huynh. After speaking to her on the on phone, Vivian agreed to spend time to talk about ethics issues that she faced at work.
Due to her busy work schedule, Vivian does not have lot of time, so she agreed to spend her lunch to talk about ethics issues at her work place. To make our conversation convenient for Vivian, I took her to a coffee shop nearby her work place. While waiting for coffee, Vivian started telling me about the ethical issues she faces at work. Vivian works as an account executive for Western Insurance Marketing Corporation for about three years. When she got hired, she had to sign a contract which states that after one year on the job, she will be reviewed for a salary increase. Ever since Vivian got this job, she worked really hard and has brought more customers and revenue for the company. After her first year, she was waiting to be called into the office by her boss to talk about a possible salary increase, but it never happened. Since she was fairly new, Vivian was afraid that if she approach her boss about this matter, that she would get fired. As the result, she told herself to be patient and allow more time to past before asking for a raised. She waited and waited until but still nothing happened. Two years have passed and still no indication from her boss of a possible raise. Vivian started to think of sending a salary request.
