Interstate 45 affects the politics, the economy, and the community of Houston today by bringing travelers to Houston and by letting travel to Galveston or Dallas. It is ranked as the 2nd deadliest highway in the United States, having 51 fatal wrecks around Houston through 2011 and 2015. Mayors and politicians focus more on this highway than all the others because of this and they try to improve the safety of Interstate 45 the citizens of Houston and other cities. It joined the Texas Gulf Coast and Houston with the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex replaced the previous route of U.S. 75 near the Gulf Freeway. The route begins on Galveston Island, then travels through Houston and then towards Dallas and then stops. In the Houston area Interstate 45 passes beside NASA’S Johnson Space Center in the direction of South Houston, Park Place and Downtown Houston. It also runs through North Houston suburbs like Aldine, Spring. Interstate 45 also temporarily runs by Interstate 10 and U.S. 90. Interstate 45 is also used to transport items to the port of Houston to travel across seas to other countries. We also use Interstate 45 as a hurricane evacuation route when strong hurricane activity appears.
What will the future look like for Interstate 45?
The future for Interstate 45 will look the same, it will still be used to travel between Dallas, Galveston and Houston, along with other cities in between them, and it will still be used as a hurricane evacuation route during hurricane season. The only thing that will change about Interstate 45 will be that it will connect to U.S. 69, because of how Interstate 45 is connected to U.S. 75, and be able to travel between more states.
