Interracial Relationships

A person’s skin color should not matter when it comes to love. You cannot help who you fall in love with whether they are African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, or any other race. Some people don’t approve of interracial relationships but people are people and we are all equal, so I don’t understand why skin color matters. I believe people should not judge couples that are in an interracial relationship and just keep their opinions to themselves because interracial relationships are getting more and more common. Older generations are more against interracial relationships because they were raised to not date outside their race and they obeyed what their parents said or they thought that they would be frowned upon. Our generation now is more open minded to interracial relationships. The people from our generation now don’t like the fact that the older generation will stare if they are in a interracial relationship or they will gossip or they will just be disappointed in you but times are changing and being with someone of a different race is really not that big of a deal. I can relate to people who feel discriminated against if they are with someone of a different race. I dated an African American boy my senior year of high school. It was the first time I had ever dated an African American. I was afraid to tell my parents because I did not know what they would think but I had already met his family and they were very nice to me and happy to meet me and did not judge me at all. When I told my mom that my boyfriend was black she was not too happy but she was not upset with me. She just told me that my dad would probably not accept it. My boyfriend really wanted to meet my family so it took me awhile to work up the nerve to ask my mom and dad if he could come over and have dinner and watch a movie. The first time I asked things did not go to well. My dad

In Say Yes, A normal white couple are just talking and washing dishes. The story is about one topic- interracial marriage? Husband argues ‘No’ while his Wife Ann argues ‘Yes’. Husband makes rational points like statistics pointing such marriages do not work while wife makes the point that if two people love each other race does not matter. Soon the argument heats up and at a point Ann accidentally cuts her thumb. The husband without expecting everything rushes to get her first-aid. He started washing dishes and told wife to go relax. He hoped that she would not start the conversation, but she asked, “ so you wouldn’t have married me if I were black.” After assuming she were the same person if she is black, out of frustration he answered No.…

In many older pieces of media, there tends to be a theme related to the issue of racial divide. This is true within the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the movie, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, produced by Stanley Kramer and written by William Rose. Both titles touch upon the idea of interracial relationships in a time when the idea of “race-mixing” was highly frowned upon by the general public, although the novel presumably takes place three decades before the movie’s setting. The novel, taking place in 1930s Alabama, and the movie, taking place in 1960s California, may represent society’s different stances upon interracial relationships throughout the years and locale. Although the two couples are met with varying levels…

Interracial Dating and Marriage by Elaine Landau highlights many of the struggles and hardships interracial couples struggled through daily. Many of the people in my book were stereotyped. The couples were judged by the color of their skin, and no one thought twice; people in society simply saw black and that was the end of it. My book takes place in the 1940’s- 1950’s in New Jersey. This book’s main reason is to inform the people about interracial dating, and to prove the fact that there isn’t a problem with a black man and a white women being together. Places use to be segregated between black and white people. Many of the relationships weren’t aloud to be a thing simply for the fact that they were not the same race. Many parents in…

America’s first biracial child was born in 1620 before anti miscegenation laws were created to prevent African Americans from getting romantically involved with Whites. Negative attitudes towards interracial relationships were fueled by racial discrimination and the devotion to keep each race pure. In today's evolving society interracial relationships are still discouraged, especially between Whites and Blacks (Childs, 2005) due to parental approval and racism. Interracial unions are believed to be evidence of a cultural development resulting from America’s practices of racial boundaries in social interaction (King & Bratter, 2007). In today’s society it is influential to increase contact amongst different races and cultures…

The definition of prejudice is a “preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience,” which is exactly what occurred with the slave owners when they assumed that all African-Americans were not fit to be treated with respect, when in fact they only looked different. It is very important for people to have evidence and reasoning before any opinion is formed. If people were judged for what they looked like or believed in, the friends and acquaintances you have would not be with you today. You can learn a lot from what people judge on, or even if they judge at all, and it isn’t always appealing. It is never permitted to judge someone, even when they may look different or come from another place. No person or group of people should be denied equal rights and respect, no matter the culture, religion, race, gender, or…

I went to a very small high school. I graduated with seven other Caucasians, like myself and one African American. If you would talk to him today, he would say that he loved us all and we were like a family to him. We never looked down at him or thought of him as different. We loved him the same and we truly were like one family. In our high school, there were a couple Indians, a few African Americans, and one girl from Thailand. With a school that small everyone knew everyone. Caucasians were the majority by far, but personally I never looked down on the handful of students that looked differently then me. To me, color was always skin deep. I would get to know the real person underneath the skin and then form my opinion of them. I hate when people assume something about a person because of the way they look and then they refuse to get to…

The pro is learning more about someone else and how they feel about interracial dating and to see is what they feel on it the type life style they want to live and are they happy with their decision making. The con is always being aware what you do in a social place and some people will be shocked an act like that a problem but it not because they are living and that who they want to date (April 28,2016). The one problem is the kids will be effect of how their parents look how they be treated but they will rise the child how their parents raise them and teach them how to love each other do not matter of race and how they feel about the other person in their own point of view if they want to date outside of their race if they do not fit their choice to make it is there lives. It hard to be different in this society but when your get older nobody will care and you can do it whatever what you do is the choice to do. Interracial dating is good thing to take a chance and give it a chance then ask then how they feel about interracial dating. If they like interracial dating they will continue interracial dating. My idea of interracial dating is something where I like and I do not discriminate any race because you learn from different people and their culture and they can learn my culture how we talk, listen to music and what type of activities we like and what are some summarily and differences toward food or religion. That one way to learn from the person you are dating. At the end of the day you are having the fun with that you are in love with they know that you love each other. Interracial dating is something that everyone should try one time in the life time while going around dating someone…

Remember your first day at the swimming pool, when you’re afraid to take that first plunge to swim in the water. But now you are swimming like a fish in the pool. Entering an interracial relationship is also akin to swimming and once you overcome the myths and fears of it you will enjoy the true love of having a relationship. Forging an interracial relationship requires boldness as you will not be a stereo type looking for dating or entering a relationship with a known person of your own race. Once you decide to go ahead with your interracial relationship, pat yourself as you have become a truly global citizen. The world is filled with people from different races, color, ethnicity depending upon the climate and the geographical location they live and they did not have any choice in being born…

Families very often hold a strong sense of heritage concerning their race and are displeased when a family member has a relationship outside of their race. This has cause negative feelings and resentment within the family, as well as impact your relationship with your significant other. Some families expect their family member to follow traditions and date and marry within their own race. When this does not happen, the anger and disappointment can be extreme and causes negative effect to the new found relationship. In situations that are extreme both individuals in the relationship have to be willing to fight and stand together as one to overcome the adversities from each other’s families. It can be difficult to understand the importance of another person's heritage, tradition and race. I believe that the relationship can excel to greener pastures as long as there is respect and commitment from both. Society has also played and big role as a con when it comes to interracial relationship. I have personally encountered that many people outside of the family are very judge mental upon the relationship. I have encountered hatred words chanted to me due to my relationship. Unfortunately, children also become targets of unpleasant teasing that is ingrained in…

One might ask, "What exactly is an interracial relationship?" An interracial relationship is the integration of two different races or ethnicities by a couple in a casual friendship, marriage, cohabitation or sexual relation. The relationship between Caucasians and African-Americans are by far the most popular "mixing" of two different races. Some view this relationship as ethically immoral and an abandonment of one's identity and background, while others see this combination as an opportunity to identify with someone of a different culture and background as well as shunning the act of racism and prejudice by getting to know someone despite the color of their skin or the beliefs that they may hold. The issue of the past and even currently is…

As a person who is in a interracial relationship, you face disgrace from those who believe it is wrong but who is to say that. It wasn't written in the law nor was it wrote in the bible so therefor it isn't a sin or even wrong. Interracial couples and their children get constant criticism from those who oppose their love, their children are praised by some but not all. Those who disagree with interracial relationships are stuck in the past and not in the present where it is perfectly fine to be with whoever make them happy. The only misjudgment being made is the one saying that we are wrong for loving someone of a different race, it isn't a written law nor is it a…

The article I choose to read was from American Journal of Public Health, entitled, Counting Accountably: Implications of the New Approaches to Classifying Race/Ethnicity in the 2000 Census. I found the article appealing because of the differences in health care between groups of people. I have long agreed that health care is, in fact, different for everyone. I have read various studies indicating the race can be an issue on the different health problems you are genetically more likely to receive. I have always believed that it does go beyond race but beyond to what? This article introduces to me a theory on to what, in addition to race, can be a factor in the health issues among different people.…
