Interprofessional Teamwork Essay
The health care has been changing at a rapid rate in these days due to evidence based practice to enhance patient safety and quality of care. In order to provide unique and comprehensive care to every patient, multiple people with different skills are needed which lead us to emphasis on interprofessional teamwork. Interprofessional teamwork has made an enormous impact on patient care. The complexity of the needs of individual requires us to involve other professional’s input to provide comprehensive care. Naylor (2011) mentioned in article published in American Nurse Today that, “This idea is not new, nor is it untested. Interprofessional, or interdisciplinary, collaboration is one of the hallmarks of several highly successful health care innovations” (Para 2). However, interprofessional teamwork has benefits and some drawbacks which will be discussed in this paper as well as the nurse’s role in collaboration care. Interprfessional teamwork has been recognized and approved in health care system in current time, and nurses are playing leadership role. In my opinion, nurses believe in providing nurturing care and promote patient’s involvement; so when multidisciplinary approach is collaborating as team, it results with patient trust and compliance as well as it hold all team members responsible for better

According to Green and Johnson, “Important indicators of safety, patient care, and environment of care, such as complications and error rate, length of hospital stay, conflict among caregivers, staff turnover, and mortality rates, have all been shown to decrease in collaborative care environment” (pg 2). All these qualities are highly important for providing quality care. It also has shown to decrease readmission which, in return, reduces the cost of managing patients with chronic disease
