Interpretation Of The Giver By Lois Lowry
The novel ‘The Giver’ by Lois Lowry ends in an ambiguous manner, meaning that there are many ways to interpret the ending of it. furthermore, the interpretations should fit in with other parts of the book to make it plausible, meaning that an interpretation of the ending should not interfere with the rest of the book.
To start off, the main protagonist of the story, Jonas, escapes from his corrupt society. The story ends with him sledding downhill, towards Christmas lights. This can be interpreted as Jonas sledding towards a society similar to ours. Knowing this society can show love as opposed to Jonas’s community, he will be taken care of. This can be proven by the quote, “‘Love.’ It was a word and concept new to him.” (Lowis 125). This
