Internet Distractions
Abstract:

Is there a problem in the world of Web 2.0? Web 2.0 has brought many changes to our lives not only mentally, but socially and psychologically. It has affected the way we think, eat, and rationalize our ideas in our lives as we move from day to day. I have researched web 2.0 and it’s effect from daily usage and the results are not the ones we should really aim for. Its negatives out weight the positives in the many different forms of life. This has affected us in the way we think, our health and certainly distracted us from the many traditional ways of life. I have analyzed 4 studies that prove to us that web 2.0 , MMORPG (Massive Multi player Online Role-Playing Game), Facebook and social media, and how the people who are closest to us the most can use web 2.0 to harm us. As a result I have learned that this plays a negative role in your educational life because in one of my studies it is proven that Facebook users in college tend to do worse than non Facebook users. In the field of gaming it distracts a person from a traditional lifestyle and disconnects them from the people who they really care about. This is not only a addiction but its consequences are severe when it comes to how it affects their health and educational life. The Internet has also became a place where predators prey on innocent people. These predators are the people who you least suspect. The larger implication here is that there are more of a distraction in the world of web 2.0 and our demand to use it excessively will only lead to our downfall. This work increase our understanding of the negative effects of the Internet from the different aspects. These are Social Media and Facebook , Gaming , and health and safety.

It is globally accepted that the Internet has become a milestone in almost every walk of life, enabling us to get instant and free interaction with the external dynamic world. Nevertheless, the great impact of the Internet on the youth remains a moot question. Growing up in the digital information era, “the Net Generation” has a crazy passion for the new social media communicating platforms--cell phones, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The concerned parents are beset with worries that their kids’ digital immersion has obviously led to their habitual distraction, which will directly make an adverse effect on their learning.…

The Internet has taken a number of society’s problems and vices, and exacerbated them. This paper will touch upon one of those vices, the sexual solicitation of children. The Internet has provided convicted sex offenders with virtually unfettered access to society’s most vulnerable victims. No longer are convicted sex offenders relegated to stalking their victims at places that youths tend to physically congregate, such as the local malls and movie theatres; they now have the advantage of preying on their victims in relative anonymity from the comfort of their own homes. At the click of a mouse they can access networks of millions of unsuspecting children. They stalk their victims with methodic…

We are part of a country that is focused on making life easier and faster. Technology is something that is constantly on the rise, we are always looking for that new gadget better than the last that is meant to facilitate the everyday life. As a result, many people are starting to lose the ability to show emotions or even carry on a face-to-face conversation, therefore making it difficult for those individuals to develop appropriate social skills. Unfortunately, we fail to see the damage that is being caused by the amount of time being spent on texting, playing with video games, or spending countless hours on social networks as an alternative to making new acquaintances or spending quality time with their loved ones.…

In his moving biography, Unplugged: My Journey into the Dark World of Video Game Addiction, Ryan Van Cleave describes the way that a violent online game, World of Warcraft, dominated his life to such an extent that he was unable to function normally and was driven to the verge of suicide. Video game addiction is now taken so seriously by psychologists and psychiatrists that it was recently considered for inclusion in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM) as a diagnosable psychiatric disorder and has been lodged in its appendix to encourage further research. It is clear that many children play video games at a “pathological” level that causes damage to family, social, school or psychological functioning (see Anderson et al, 2012). For example, it has been found that 8.5 per cent of 8–18-year-old US video game players do so at pathological levels (Gentile, 2009). Similar…

Welcome, Mr. Ryan, to the 25-page essay I will be writing you. It’s approx. 7:08 PM and I’m starting this essay right now. I have a lot of things to do, but getting signed out by you is a big thing, so I guess I need to do this. This sucks a lot, and I hate doing this but I’m going to do it. Cameron, is a distraction because of a lot of reasons, well first let me tell you the definition of a so-called “distraction”. A Distraction is the divided attention of an individual or group from the chosen object of attention onto the source of distraction. Distraction is caused by: the lack of ability to pay attention; lack of interest in the object of attention; or the great intensity, novelty or attractiveness of something other than the object of attention. Distractions come from both external sources, and internal sources. Other things like Multitasking could also be considered as distraction in situations requiring full attention on a single object (e.g. sports, academic tests, performance). The issue of distraction in the workplace is studied in interruption science. According to Gloria Mark, a leader in interruption science, the average knowledge worker switches tasks every three minutes, and, once distracted, a worker takes nearly a half-hour to resume the original task. TECHNOLOGY has given us many gifts, among them dozens of new ways to grab our attention. It’s hard to talk to a friend without your phone buzzing at least once. Odds are high you will check your Twitter feed or Facebook wall while reading this article. Just try to type a memo at work without having an e-mail pop up that ruins your train of thought.…
