In Windows Server 2008 R2, there are various responsibilities that have to be taken care of. These roles arevital in ensuring the success of how a server performs in its essential functions. The roles are a primary duty in which the server will executesand the secondary responsibilities are called role services. These roles within Windows Server 2008 can include: Active Directory, Hyper-V, Web Server (IIS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System/ Server (DNS) and File Services.
Generally speaking roles are relianton the requirements of the company or person needing them. It’s important to note that individual servers can be configured a variety of ways, from being a complete Active Directory server with DHCP and DNS in order to administrate and facilitate user needs.Or even as a Web Server to host different sites and services within a single server. Using Server Manager, a Systems Administrator or user can configure, install, and uninstall roles on the server without having to switch interfaces. When it comes to Kudler Fine Foods, or KFF, I believe that the best option to fit this specific company has to be the Active Directory Server architecture. This particular setup seems fitting because it give KFF the ability to handle the amount of applications, data and have a reliable structure without the lack of security which is of the upmost importance for current and future operations. Here are some of the different roles that are available in Windows Server 2008 R2: * Active Directory Domain Services:“Active Directory Domain Services provide secure, structured, hierarchical data storage for objects in a network such as users, computers, printers, and services. Active Directory Domain Services provide support for locating and working with these objects.” (“Active Directory D.S.”, 2013) * Application Server: The Application Server provides a hosting environment of high-performance and

When it comes to installing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, there are many different server roles that this software operating system has to offer. The first one is Active Directory Certificate Services and Active Directory Domain Services. Active Directory is a huge component when it comes to a server. This service has all the information about all of the users, the computers, and any other device that is connected to the network. The Active Directory assists IT professionals with being able to manage all of this information, and allows them to be able to facilitate any sharing that is going on between any end user in the company. Another role is the Active Directory Federation Services. This lets users have a web sign in capability, that lets users authenticate to different web applications by just logging in with one single user account. Another role that this has is the application server. This is a major role because the server can be used to hose and manage all of the critical business applications that the company needs to use. One major component also is the DHCP server, which the Windows Server does play a huge role in. The DHCP server is what assigns an IP address to any machine that is connecting to the network. This is critical because if the machine can’t get an IP address, then they won’t be able to communicate with the network. Along with the DHCP server, another role is the capability of being the fax server. This is self-explanatory, the fax server allows the company to send and receive faxes, and also allows IT personnel to be able to manage these jobs, or any settings or reports that are needed to be shown. Another major role is file services. The server basically holds all of the companies information, or software shares, so that when there is the need for a new install, or an employee needs a new piece…
