“But innovation comes from people meeting up in the hallways or calling each other at 10:30 at night with a new idea, or because they realized something that shoots holes in how we’ve been thinking about a problem.” -Steve Jobs. It is quite unbelievable how the world has changed so rapidly over the last decades. As we take a look at the world around us, we notice the vast infrastructures, cancer treatments being discovered, toxic hazardous industrial wastes being safely treated, etc. Now, try thinking outside the box. Who exactly has been bringing these incredibly magnificent changes to the world around us? Aren’t the processes of turning great ideas that are explored in laboratories into practical devices that ensure us a better lifestyle, higher-quality products, protection to the environment, and the creation of jobs for the community astonishing? No answer is needed to that question. For decades, chemical engineers have been creating innovations by dealing with technological problems that impact the life of common man in so many surprising ways. Their principles are widely applied to a diverse range of everyday things that people do, and in almost every services and products we use. By creating, designing and running processes, Chemical Engineers have been delivering innovations in various different ways to the world.
Chemical Engineering is a link between manufacturing realities and scientific processes. This field involves the use of Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Math and a vital Economics and Finance skills. Why is it considered a link between manufacturing realities and scientific processes? In order to undoubtedly understand this, one must know the complete definition of the terms ‘manufacturing realities’ and

Have you ever wanted to do science and get money for it? That’s what happens when you become a chemist. If you are a chemist, you teach technicians how to do procedures. You carry out complex research projects, write technical reports and detailed messages and findings. You present research findings to engineers and other colleagues. They prepare solutions, compounds, and reagents used in laboratories. Because chemistry is hard, not many people do it.…

When we think of inventions we often limit the concept to objects or tools that are patented to perform a specific task that is innovative . But a careful reading of the definition of invention reminds us that it can be a lot more. An invention can certainly be an object but it also includes the idea of a process or a technique. The key to something being considered an invention is the level of ingenuity and novelty that it attains. Making a shift in not just how to solve the problem but how to view or frame the problem is at the core of every good invention. The inventor manages to see something new and different which becomes the springboard for his invention. Such is the case of Max Roach. Last, but not least, is Mark Dean. Dean invented a microcomputer system which fueled the growth of the information sharing and technology industry. It is thanks to him that I am able to burn cd’s, listen to my music and print out homework assignments. His invention has enabled me to work as efficiently as I can in today’s modern technology driven lifestyle. When you look at the world around you there are so many things that have impacted our lives that have started out at ideas to solving problems in the mind of a single individual. In that sense you realize that we are all truly indebted to these people and at the same time we are part of this human collaboration of innovation and invention who’s one and only goal is to further improve life for all human…

Individuals take engineering as something distance to their lives due to rigorous courses to get through. As some would say that it is not worth it, other clever individuals have figured this out. To be a chemical engineer, an individual explores and takes on other sciences to create important products to better peoples lives. As Mark and Sherri Devaney stated, “…Chemical Engineers are charged primarily with finding ways to put science and engineering principles to work…” with their purpose being, “…to help corporations and organizations create useful, cost effective products that will benefit consumers…”.(pg. 43) As it was brought up earlier, to be a chemical engineer, one must apply other subjects and fields. It is typical to begin these processes earlier in life. “High school students interested in chemical engineering should take all of the mathematics and science courses that their schools offer.” As explained by Ferguson. (pg. 44) While one is solely not focused on one particular area, the variety of knowledge that an individual should obtain would benefit that person in a plethora of ways. An individual should take on chemical engineering due to requirement of diverse knowledge, the striving to better them self, and to increase their potential.…

Chemistry is everywhere. The air we breathe, the ground we stand on, the seas we sail, and the variety of living things including our own bodies; all these are made of substances that we call chemicals. These chemicals interact with one another, and, in many cases, these interactions produce new substances through processes known as chemical reactions. Over time, in high school I have learned much about chemicals and have mastered numerous chemical reactions, giving me the ability to modify existing substances and synthesize new ones. Consequently, chemist have created a whole new realm of materials such as those used in paints, plastics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, soaps, cosmetics, and more. Thus chemistry has provided an important foundation for our modern technological world. In what ways do we observe the operation of chemical principles in our everyday lives? Let us consider a few examples from the video that help illustrate our connections to chemistry.…
