Inlet Grove Community High School Case Study
Luis Canostriuino Pulido from Columbia is a nursing student attending Inlet Grove Community High school. But unlike most of us who wake up at 5:30 or 6 and take a bus or car to school, he wakes up at 4am catches a bus, train then another bus to get to school and then does the same to get home every day.
Motivated by his mother, the 14-year-old left his home country and all of his family with the exception of his mom, in search of a better Future.
“It’s been a little bit weird and scary because, I didn’t know anybody and didn’t know much of English.” He said, when asked about the adjustment to United States. He said he misses his family very much.
When Luis was back at home he lived on a farm, he was consistently surrounded by animals. Luis also considers himself very passionate about them, he aspires to become a very successful veterinarian. This was one of the major influences on his decision to …show more content…
“I just did it to improve myself you know.”
One of the biggest problems he’s faced since choosing the school is the distance. He currently lives with his mom in Belle Glade, that’s more than an hour away.
“First I have to take one bus from my house to a place by the courthouse after that, I take another bus from the courthouse to the West Palm Beach trail rail. After that I take the train from West Palm Beach to Mongolia, and after that I take a school bus to here, I have to wake up a four.”
He often misses his home country, one of the many things he misses are the schools. He said, “You can do more things during lunch like play soccer, watch movies, or go to the practice in the band room. There are also different types of classes, their much more specific and the periods are shorter.”
