“ I don’t know how tall I am or how much I weigh because I don’t want anybody to know my identity. I'm like a superhero. Call me basketball man.” Today Lebron James is a basketball superhero, but there was a day when James was just a kid from Akron, Ohio.
On December 30th, 1984, Lebron James was born to a sixteen year old high school student, Gloria James. Akron, Ohio Is where James was born, but his childhood was unsteady as his mom and he tried to escape from poverty. When it came time for James’s mom to pay the bills, they had to move to another apartment. With having to move from one place to another all the time James did not do well in school and often struggled to fit in. In fourth grade, James missed 87 days of school. As a single parent Gloria relied on her mother, Freda, financially to house her and her son. But being a single parent as well, Freda wasn’t full of money.

The Shooting Stars included many high quality players who spent time together on and off the court. The Shooting Stars gained a reputation which was fought hard for. They all improved over the six years that they played together. Together the Shooting Stars became unstoppable and didn’t want to break the talent when it came time for high school. So the well bonded group of boys enrolled in St. Vincent - St. Mary. The $4,800 tuition fee was a little shaking for the single mom Goria but the school was able to grant a scholarship to the towering 6 foot, 14 year old Lebron James. James’ big hands came in handy for many things including football. James enjoyed football, even though he knew one injury could put his football and basketball career on hold. Assistant coach Mark Murphy was confident Lebron would be very successful in the NFL if he stuck with it. But James realised he had another thing going and soon his football career came to an end. James was only a freshman and was just getting warmed
