Informal Letter to Alison Hargreaves' Parents
Dear Mum and Dad,

How are you? It’s been awhile since the last time I’ve wrote a letter to you and I’m currently at the base of K2. I know this is sudden but after hours of deciding, I’ve made the courageous decision to stay and climb to the summit of K2. I was really convinced by one of my fellow climbers to stay because opportunities like this don’t always come. In addition, it is my dream to be the only British woman to reach K2. Ever since I started this career, it has been my ambition and with this opportunity standing right in front of me, I have to press on.

This must be very shocking to you but I really hope you can understand. This achievement will really help my career as a mountain climber. It is going to be a rough journey but in time, we will make it to the top. The conditions in K2 might be eerie and dangerous but what’s life without taking any risks? I see myself standing proudly on top of the mountain, gazing upon an amazing view and thinking about this accomplishment my team and I have made.

My fellow climbers are experienced and well-trained and with their skills, they will help me achieve my goal. I promise I will take care of myself so please don’t worry. The journey to the summit of K2 will take several months so I’ll likely be back at the end of November. While I’m gone, my kids will be very upset so during this period of time, please take care Tom and Kate, your grandkids. Tell them I miss them a ton and I’ll be home soon.

I really hope nothing horrible will happen but in the event where something does, I just want you to know that I love you and I am sorry for ever disrespecting you.

    Everest including images to better visualize the text. The author first begins the story in the middle when they are returning to the bottom of the mountain. He tells who didn’t survive or who had contracted a fatal injury he then continues to tell us about the impact of the challenge “… to the tragedy the Everest climb has rocked my LIFE to its core …” (Pg. 3). This quote reflects his perspective on the expedition. His vivid figurative language and exquisite imagery pertaining to every event made the passage not only highly realistic but parallel . It was as if the reader was with him and they struggles and felt lightheaded and experienced the same minor injuries. Although the author was advised not to pursue the expidition, he ignored and continued to walk in his ambitions. “Finally I woke up enough to recognize that I was in deep shit and the cavalry wasn't coming so I better do something about it myself” (Chpt. 20). This quote portrays his perspective on his situation and how he feels about the potential overall outcome of his actions. This quote also reflects his personality as a strong-willed individual.     As your child's primary teacher I would like to briefly explain to you the importance of building up their vocabulary. Vocabulary simply refers to the various words we must understand in order to communicate our thoughts and ideas both orally and written. It also refers to the words needed to better understand what a person is saying to us. Constantly expanding a students vocabulary is a crucial part of their literary development and is essential in their development both academically and socially. Learning new words and their meanings will not only help improve a students reading comprehension, but also improve their speech and listening skills, as well as, their writing skills. Throughout a students time in school they will rely heavily on their ability to read and comprehend text. The better a students vocabulary the easier this will be for them. By assessing students knowledge of vocabulary I will be able to identify those students who show signs of reading and writing deficiencies or learning disabilities. Proper assessment strategies will also help me gauge how successful or unsuccessful my teaching methods are. This allows me to appropriately construct and adjust lessons to find which ones work best. I will assess students knowledge of vocabulary first by examining their standardized test scores. Of course, this by itself will not give me a complete picture of a students knowledge of words, but it will give me a generally starting point as to where a student is in their vocabulary development. I will then use a variety of techniques to assess their grasp of new words throughout the year by multiple choice or matching exercises, as…

    First of all, I'd like to thank you for everything you've done for me, now and forever. All of your wonderful support has seriously helped me become who I am today.
