Influence Teacher 2
Teacher is someone that I think deserve nothing less but respect. Being a teacher is not about teaching but also changing someone’s life from nothing to a completely different person. I still remember majority, the name and faces of my teachers from kindergarten until now. I do admit, there are a lot of happiness, sadness and memorable things that connects me to them. It is not too much if I said that without them, it is impossible for me to stand and be here. First and foremost, I was asked to give an example of a teacher that influenced me a lot in teaching. Well for me, one name stands firm among others and that name is Mr Abd Rahim. He was my previous secondary mathematics teacher. A very strict but concern educator. Although we met twice a week for tuition class, but I loved to follow his steps and become just like him. He uses group discussion in maximizing our understanding in mathematics. His teaching styles are very effective to me and the class. He divided us in to pairs according to our level and ability. Using this method, I found out that the members of the group are actually helping each other in answering the questions. It is a very excellent way in learning mathematics and other subjects. During this activity, members can consult and ask questions from the teacher. After that the teachings continue with a discussion with all class members. He then asked representative from each group to write down the process in answering the question in front of the class on the whiteboard. If there is a mistake or the students can’t answer the question, he next asked other students for help. If no one is able to answer it, he will assist us step by step. This method of teachings helps us to think and find a way in answering the questions. Before the class ends, he would take our 10 until 20 minutes to summarize his teaching and sometimes even motivate us with stories that he accouters during his days. Sometimes, he provides us with foods and we sat with him chatting almost about everything. He managed to gain our respects without forcing us to do so. The feelings came out naturally and I think this is very important for us as future teachers to gain respects from the students especially.

When I was a high school student, I experienced many teachers. Some of the teachers made me feel as if I could achieve so much, and others made me feel like I was just in any other class. I knew this difference by trying to build a relationship with them and making sure they were prepared to respond to any given situation. I believe to be a great teacher you must be prepared and build a strong relationship with your students. . In the school I attended, many fights broke out every day. Therefore, you either had to sit down and talk with your teacher for breaking up a fight you were involved in, or you made fun of the teacher who didn’t know what to do. There were a handful of teachers who made school feel like every day dragged and others who made the year fly by.…

Although the teachers are the first point of contact in the school, but the people in the background are also important. For example the cleaners in the school that maintain the cleanliness of the school, making it an appropriate study environment. Also, the people in the general office, the principal, vice-principal, OM so on so forth. Without them, the school would not have been the same, and paperwork would not have been done. The teachers have also done their part, planning lessons, marking school work, taking care of classes, and I believe they deserve a round of applause. I think they are extraordinary people who carry out their task very well. It is very heartwarming to see teachers treating each and every one of us in the class as their own children. How everyone matters to the teacher; how our problems are also their problems. They not only are our teachers, but are also like our second parents and the school is like our second home. Although everyone has gone their own pathways and moved to new “homes”, there is still some kind of attachment to the school that is…

I believe that everyone, one way or another, has progressed to where they are in life because they had a teacher. A teacher by definition is someone who provides educational instruction and communicates lifelong lessons. However, I see teachers beyond that common definition. Teachers have the opportunity to shed light on topics not commonly found in text books, to teach skills that students can use in real life, and to inspire students to overcome their adversities. But why become a teacher when you can become a doctor? Or a lawyer? I asked myself these same questions prior to joining the education program at the University of Guam. I found great intrinsic value of teaching by being able to inspire students to help others and to provide equal opportunities for those children who are considered “at risk”. I also found great extrinsic value in teaching because it provides a great work schedule and I am able to travel the world because education is rooted in every country.…
