Influence Of Money In Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin In The Sun
Some readers feels that “money” is the most important word in the play Raisin in the sun because it has the most influence on the Youngers within the play. Such as buying the new house that they want, having enough money for education purposes, and many other necessities. Money also has a huge impact on the Youngers. Although money in their mind is supposed to help them, it makes things harder for them. For example, when walter goes to pursue his dreams to open up a liquor store and he ends up losing all of his money, “Gone what do you mean willy is gone?” (Hansbury 128) Walter just lost all of the money($6,500) by trusting Willie and giving him all of his money away. Dream is more important than the word money because the Youngers dream is to soon move into the nice neighborhood. they will understand there is not a better feeling in the world when there dreams are successful. Not even money can get you that feeling, and that is why I choose Dream to be my most significant word. Quote that I choose that proves the dreams are more important than money,(37, Hansberry) “Yes, a fine man—just couldn't never catch up with his dreams, that's all.” This quote is important because it is showing that even though your dreams are important it can really make a good man change because he gets so self involved within his dreams.
