Nevertheless as discussion of it
Spanish authorities that ruled the Philippines has demonstrated that such indolence does not exist, and that all said about it does not deserve a reply or even passing choice.

Nevertheless as discussion of it has been continued, not only by government employees who make it responsible for their own shortcomings, not only by the friars who regard it as necessary in order that they may continue to represent themselves as indispensable, but also by serious and disinterested persons: and as evidence of greater or less weight may be adduced in opposition to that which Dr. Sanciano cites, it seems expedient to us to study this question thoroughly, without superciliousness or sensitiveness, without prejudice, without pessimism. As as we can only serve our country by telling the truth, however, bitter it be, just as flagrant and skillful negation cannot refute a real and positive fact, in spite of the brilliance of the arguments; as mere affirmation is not sufficient to create something possible, let us calmly examine the facts, using on our part all the impartiality of which a man is capable who is convinced that there is no redemption except upon solid bases of virtue.

No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the house. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve. This is no time for ceremony. The question before the house is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at the truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.…

Spain is known for its history of exploring and conquering lands during the Age of Exploration in 16th century. There were many undiscovered lands during those times and in search of the east countries of the world, Spain was able to discover the Philippine archipelago and colonize it. As an official colony of Spain, settlements were made by the Spanish natives and they were able to establish communities. They called the natives indios and converted their religion to Roman Catholic. They created political, economic and social systems in the archipelago that truly made a mark in the cultural evolution of the natives. As the Spaniards rule over the archipelago, they demonstrated practices of administering the colony to maintain their power. Within the long duration of colonizing the Philippines, Spanish influences are evident in the practices and way of life of the Filipinos in all aspects. Those influences gave an impact on the Filipino society from those times up to the present.…

The second chapter of this article, Rizal labelled indolence as a chronic disease. He said that if a disease is given a wrong treatment, then it would also follow that the disease will aggravate. In the case of indolence, the Filipinos should not be defeated in combating this malady. In this chapter, Rizal argued that the natives were engaged in trade and commerce even before the Spaniards came. This was even first noticed by Pigefatta when they arrived in the country in 1521 with Magellan. The involvement of natives in buying and selling and other industrial activities disproves the…

Moreover, as what Dr. Jose Rizal did, it leads me to a well understanding that I should not depend on what is currently going on. There are times that other people will abuse your insanity. Just like what happened to our ancestors, it really made my tears fell down when I saw the friars hurt a little innocent boy. Spanish citizens went here to the Philippines just to be superior and let Filipinos be under their wings and we Philippine citizens can do nothing just to stop them because were not educated enough compare to them. How cruel they are. They never wanted us to be well-educated so they could continue their evil doings. Spanish priests acted so innocent and righteous but then they were the worst sinners due to the fact that they raped Filipino women. It really hurts me as I continue watching the…

In People v. Adajio, the Court found that fear of bodily harm and fear for the safety of her family prevented the therein complainant from shouting for help, caused her to spread her legs upon the order of her rapist, and compelled her to follow him to the place where the second charge of rape occurred. It thus held that physical resistance need not be established in rape when threats and intimidation are employed and the victim submits herself to the embrace of her rapist because of fear, as in the cases at bar.…
