1: Brainstorming: 17/04/2014
I had trouble finding a group member having not openly advertised myself to other class mates. I was beginning to stress and thought I'd better hurry. My last attempt was to check the discussion board on Blackboard to see if anybody else was looking and luckily enough, there was. I met with my new partner, Xu Yin, after class on this particular Thursday so we could discuss the basics, that is, how we wanted to approach the task we had been set. We laid out some ground rules including; where and how often we would meet, how we would communicate in-between meeting dates, key expectations and more. Once this was established we moved on to making a formal start on our idea. Some interesting ideas were discussed, however, we had no foundation from which to draw inspiration from so we decided we would spend some time, between meeting next, studying and narrowing down ideas of interest.

2: Consolidation of Ideas: 24/04/2014
Our decision was one of external stimulation, given that we weren't able to identify a need through our own experiences. Rather, we had stumbled across an idea that already existed, though, we felt had opportunity to be refined and re-modelled. Our idea was for a peer-to-peer based lending platform in Australia. I found this idea through browsing various websites in search of successful startups in foreign countries within the past two years. Xu Yin had some great ideas as a result of her own research, though collectively, we felt that our P2P lending idea would be the most viable.
Our basic research told us that in the U.S.A, startups such as Prosper and Lending Club had been effectively disrupting the credit lending market, however, in Australia much less was happening.
We set out to discover what business model we could utilise to replicate the success of our foreign

Jones Electrical Distribution (“JED”), which sells electrical components and tools to general contractors and electricians, is experiencing rapid growth in a highly-fragmented, highly competitive industry and despite profits, experiencing a cash shortfall, resulting in increased borrowing from Metropolitan Bank (the “Bank”) to $250K, the max loan amount the Bank will make to any one client. JED has been able to remain within this amount through 2006, relying heavily on trade credit from suppliers. As a result, Nelson Jones, owner and president, is seeking a new banking relationship. Nelson’s friend introduced him to a new bank where he felt he might qualify for a loan up to $350K. The new loan would provide him with the much need credit availability now, but carry customary covenants causing JED to be more deliberate about future growth: (i) continue on aggressive growth path; or (ii) moderate/slow.…

If I had to categorize my feelings during orientation, it would be exhausted, uncomfortable, isolated and interested. Thursday was action packed with events; from 6 am to 11pm I was on the move. After the rain soaked scavenger hunt, I was stripped of all the energy & enthusiasm I possessed at the beginning of the day. As a result I fell asleep once my head touched my soft pillow and my body laid on that stone hard “mattress” . In unfamiliar settings and situations I immediately become uncomfortable. Between not being in Philadelphia and not knowing anyone in the group, the uneasy and awkward feelings started to set in throughout the the day. This uncomfortable feeling would later lead to isolation. Everyone was so approachable,…

I really enjoyed reading all the articles for this module because it gave me a new perspective and lens of viewing marriage and family therapy. I felt that I could relate to the first article that discussed ethical perspectives inside of a classroom setting. I believe that this article illustrated the way in which students have personal and professional value conflicts, which leads to figuring out how to solve these dilemmas. Also, while reading these articles I found these new perspectives to be very interesting and they made me think of the specific and unique challenges that marriage and family therapists have to deal with. When reading these articles I realized that marriage and family therapists have more challenges and concerns to deal with and process compared to individual therapist, such as dual relationships with family and/or group clients. Another big issue that can play a big part of family therapy is disclosure of family secrets, specifically if a minor disclosures these secrets in session.…

One of my strengths is inquiring. I’m usually the one in a group questioning everything like “How did this happen?” or “What is the meaning of….” I also like to know a lot of information on a subject before I consider doing anything with it. I’m a very curious person and sometimes I’ll look at things from a different and new perspective to see what it’s like. I do this because I really enjoy seeing things from new different angles and comparing the two different point of views. This helps me better understand someone else’s view on something. For example if a friend and I are in an argument, I’ll try to wear their shoes and see their side. I also like to know why certain things have importance and value. I point out and question key facts and points to see why exactly it is of such significance.…
